Canucks Name D Quinn Hughes as Newest Captain
Hughes was drafted by the Canucks as the seventh player overall in the 2018 draft. Since the 2019-2020 campaign, he has never played fewer than 56 games, with highs of 76 and 78 in the past two seasons.
After Bo Horvat was sent to the New York Islanders in January before the trade deadline, Vancouver went through the remainder of their games without a nominated leader.
In 2022-2023, Hughes compiled a tally of seven goals and 69 assists for 76 points and a +/- of +15. Considering that the team finished with a goal differential of -22, that’s not half bad.
Hughes is the 15th captain in franchise history. He walks in the footsteps of Henrik Sedin, Roberto Luongo, and Markus Naslund among many other Canucks greats.
