Tuesday's Best NHL Picks: Sens Happy For Road Trip
Puck Luck
Ottawa Senators at Florida Panthers (-110, 5)
You have to think the Senators are happy to get Daniel Alfredsson’s return to Ottawa behind them. They hung around with Detroit for a while Sunday but ultimately took their sixth loss in the last eight games. The Sens are much better on the road this year than they are at home and should be able to take advantage of Florida’s 29th-ranked penalty kill. Erik Karlsson is rolling again with a team-leading 27 points, 12 of which have come with the man advantage.
Pick: Ottawa Senators
Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders (-170, 5.5)
Sidney Crosby and Co. have to be licking their chops ahead of this one. The Islanders have lost six straight games, allowed at least four goals in four of those matchups. Meanwhile, the Penguins’ “secondary” scoring is also starting to heat up. Crosby was held off the score sheet in Pittsburgh’s 5-1 win over Florida, but Evgeni Malkin picked up a goal and four points and James Neal added a goal and an assist. The Islanders don’t have the depth or the goaltending to keep all the Pens quiet tonight.
Pick: Over 5.5
Los Angeles Kings at Anaheim Ducks (-125, 5)
The Ducks haven’t suffered a regulation loss at home all season but will face one of their toughest tests so far with the Kings coming to town. Los Angeles has picked up at least a point in 12 of its last 13 games and is getting some great goaltending from Ben Scrivens, who is filling in for the injured Jonathan Quick. Scrivens is 6-1-4 so far this season and gives the Kings a shot at snapping Anaheim’s streak at home. However, the better bet is probably playing under the total. The Kings have allowed fewer than three goals in 12 straight games.
Pick: Under
