San Jose Sharks vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
A win and some help would clinch the Oilers the division, who at worst will finish second and have home ice in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
And Edmonton’s getting a 14th-place Sharks club that’s dropped five straight and can possibly finish second-last in the league. San Jose’s also coming off a back-to-back after falling to Calgary last night by a score of 3-1.
Puck drop at Rogers Place goes at 9 p.m. EDT with Edmonton -450 to win the game and -105 to cover a -2.5 puckline, while the total’s at seven on the NHL odds.
Sharks vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
Edmonton’s hot as can be at the right time as they come into Thursday on an eight-game win streak. The Oilers have dropped just one of their last nine at home too and are 22-12-6 on home ice this season.
The Oilers will finish the regular season as the league’s highest-scoring team by a mile and this year’s performances against San Jose have helped that cause. Edmonton is 4-0 against the Sharks and three of the wins have been by five or more goals. In the four wins, Edmonton has scored a minimum of five goals and 24 total goals. The over has connected in 16 of Edmonton’s last 19 games against San Jose.
San Jose Sharks
Want to know how rough things in San Jose are? Wednesday was the fifth-straight loss for the Sharks but the first time in four games they allowed fewer than six goals. Only two teams are allowing more goals than San Jose this season which is not a good stat for a team closing their season against the highest-scoring club, and a club that has something to play for.
Kaapo Kahkonen had one of his best performances of the season last night by only letting in three goals on 49 shots faced. With Kahkonen starting yesterday, it shapes up for James Reimer to play his team-leading 43rd game in net on Thursday. Reimer is 12-20-8 this season with an .891 save percentage.
Edmonton Oilers
They might be the league’s top-scoring team, but defence has been the key of late. Over Edmonton’s eight-game win streak they’ve only allowed more than one goal in two games and it was the first two of the streak. Over Edmonton’s last six outings they’ve let in a total of four goals which is a massive success for both Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner heading into the postseason. Skinner’s been Edmonton’s top goalie this season, playing 49 games and posting a .914 save percentage.
Edmonton will likely finish with three skaters in the top 10 in points this season too. Connor McDavid (152 points) and Leon Draisaitl (125 points) are guaranteed as the league’s top two scorers with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (103 points) currently stands eighth in the league. These three should all have no problems finding the score sheet against the Sharks.
