Ottawa Senators vs. New York Islanders Prediction, NHL Odds
The Sens have dropped back-to-back games after a three-game win streak dropping their record to 3-3 on the season. The Islanders are in the midst of an even deeper slump dropping each of their past three games. Both teams are sitting in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference standings follow a shaky opening to the start to the campaign.
Puck drop from UBS Arena is set for 7:30 PM and our NHL odds have the Islanders as a slight -125 favourite with the OVER/UNDER set at 6 goals.
Senators vs. Islanders NHL Betting Odds
Games between these teams have been very close in recent years, with each team taking four of the past eight meetings. In those eight games they have played the Under in six of them including each of the past five. The Sens took two of three meetings last season, led by Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle’s four points in the series.
Ottawa has had no trouble putting the puck in the net, scoring 25 goals through the first six games, good for seventh in the league. The goal scoring has pushed them to a 5-0-1 record on the Over/Under.
New York’s offence has been far from lethal this season, scoring the third least amount of goals at just 13 through five games. The defensive mindset has helped them to a 2-3 record on the Over/Under and they have also only covered the spread twice this year.
Ottawa Senators
The Sens found themselves down 5-1 after two periods on Tuesday night, when they faced the Buffalo Sabres on home ice. Ottawa managed to claw their way back into the contest, scoring three consecutive goals in the last five minutes of the game to get within one. Head Coach DJ Smith waited for his team to bring it within a goal to pull his goalie and it back fired, as the Sabres would add another to make it a 6-4 final.
Anton Forsberg was pulled after the second period, allowing five goals on 18 shots. Joonas Korpisalo came in and stopped all five shots in the third and Ottawa outshot Buffalo 38-24. Expect Korpi to get the nod on Thursday in Buffalo.
Captain Brady Tkachuk luckily avoided an automatic one game suspension for instigating a fight in the last five minutes of the game, after the Senators appealed the call.
New York Islanders
The Islanders had a good night offensively on Tuesday, putting four on the board before the midway point of the third versus an undefeated Colorado Avalanche team. Unfortunately for them, they could not contain the Avalanche offence in the final frame as they would fall 7-4, giving up two empty netters.
New York has had a bit of a tough schedule so far, but have managed a 2-2-1 record to begin the season. They have only managed to pot four goals twice in their six outings but as most fans know, this team is not built for high scoring games.
Defenceman Noah Dobson and Mat Barzal are known for their offensive prowess and have shown it early on, each riding four game point streaks. Barzal (1G 3A) picked up an assist in the loss, while Dobson (1G 4A) notched a pair. Veteran Kyle Palmieri is also off to surprisingly hot start picking up a goal in the game to increase his point total to five (2G 3A).
