Ottawa Senators vs. Montreal Canadiens Prediction, NHL Odds

The scuffling Ottawa Senators conclude their longest road trip of the season with their last visit of the campaign to Montreal on Tuesday night. The Canadiens, back from their own trip, are -110 on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5 goals.

Senators vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

It’s usually wise to fade an MLB, NBA or NHL team playing the final game of a very long road trip, and that’s where Ottawa is on Tuesday night as this season-long seven-game roadie started Nov. 20 in Anaheim and concludes with the Senators’ final trip to Montreal this regular season; the Habs have two trips yet to Ottawa.

On Nov. 1, Montreal beat Ottawa, 4-3 in overtime, on a goal at 1:40 from Alex Newhook. It was a very entertaining game with the Canadiens leading 2-0 midway through the second, but the Senators taking a 3-2 lead late into the third. Ivan Demidov tied it at 3-3 to set up Newhook’s heroics. Samuel Montembeault had 14 saves, while Linus Ullmark finished with 23 saves in a loss. He stopped Lane Hutson on a penalty shot late in the second.

You never know when a playoff tiebreaker could be vital, so a win here obviously ensures that Montreal won’t lose the season series at a minimum. Ottawa is still 6-4 in the past 10 meetings overall, and the over-under is 8-2 in those.

Ottawa Senators

Ottawa is 3-3 on this road trip following a 6-1 loss in Dallas on Sunday, easily the worst game of the trip for the Senators as they looked a bit worn down. The Stars allowed just 16 shots on goal, which was a season low for both teams. Jake Sanderson had the lone goal, his fifth of the year. He became the sixth defenceman in Senators history to record 20 points in a season in 25 or fewer games. Linus Ullmark stopped 20 shots. Ridly Greig returned after missing five games injured and was minus-2 with two shots on goal. Ottawa finished 6-4-3 in November, the team’s first winning mark in the month since 2016-17. Because Ullmark struggled in Dallas, it may be back to Leevi Merilainen on Tuesday. Although, he’s 0-3-0 away with a 4.51 GAA compared to 3-0-0 at home with a 2.33 GAA. The over is 9-3 in the Senators’ past 12 vs. Eastern Conference opponents.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal finished a three-game trip at 2-1 and had a three-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 7-2 loss at league-best Colorado. No shame in that in the second of a back-to-back. Jakub Dobes brought a seven-game road points streak in that one, but the six goals allowed were a season high. Ivan Demidov and Lane Hutson scored for Montreal. Cole Caufield had an assist to extend his points streak to seven games, during which he has scored twice and added six helpers. Blueliner Jayden Struble was out injured and also missed practice on Monday. Sam Montembeault has been confirmed in net for Tuesday. He stopped 30 of 31 shots in last Friday’s 4-1 upset win Las Vegas. Montembeault hasn’t been too sharp at home with a 3.72 GAA in eight outings (3-3-1). The over is 14-2 in Montreal’s past 16 games.
