The New York Rangers are making a name for themselves in the Metropolitan Division right now. They are 6-2-1 on the season and are coming off their second straight win after easily swooping past the Seattle Kraken. The Vancouver Canucks aren’t in the same boat as they’ve dropped to 3-5-1 on the season following a 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers the other night. New York is also undefeated in their last six when allowing their opponent to score two or less goals in their previous contest. Because of that stellar defense, the under has been 7-1-1 in the Rangers past nine games overall.

Meanwhile, the Canucks are just 1-5 straight up in their last six games when coming into the matchup as the home underdog and 2-5 straight up in their last seven games overall. Vancouver has not gotten it done offensively either with the under cashing out in four of their last five games overall.

New York Rangers

Defense is what is leading the Rangers to their wins this year. They are only allowing 2.11 goals per game this season, which is enough to get them ranked fourth in the league in this category. Their penalty kill is also successful 83.3 percent of the time, the 13th best in the league. Igor Shesterkin has been the starter most of the year in the net, posting a 5-1-1 record with a .947 save percentage. Offensively, they have some work to do but aren’t horrible by any stretch. They are scoring 2.44 goals per game with Chris Kreider leading the team with seven on the year. One thing that they have to improve upon is the offensive powerplay as they have only scored in those situations five times in their first nine games.

Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks still can’t get it done on offense, which is crippling their chances of success. They are 28th in the league with only 2.33 goals per game. Their power play efficiency on offense is only 18.8 percent as well. Their leading scorer is Bo Horvat, who has four goals entering this contest. Defense hasn’t even been that bad for Vancouver but they just can’t seem to find a way to balance the two sides. They are allowing 2.67 goals per game, good enough for 10^th place in the NHL.

Thatcher Demko is 3-3-1 in the net this season with a .924 save percentage. Jaroslav Halak has backed him up and hasn’t been very successful, losing both games despite having a .917 save percentage. If Vancouver wants to turn the season around, it starts on the offensive end.
