The Panthers have faded to +101 underdogs since opening as a -104 bet, while the Maple Leafs have improved to -121 favourites despite garnering the support of just 49 per cent of sports bettors. The total has held steady at a lofty 7.0, with the Under emerging as -120 chalk.
Panthers vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds
Sunday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Arena marks the first meeting between these teams since February 2020. Neither club has really dominated, with each picking up six wins over their past 12 clashes. However, the Maple Leafs hold the edge when facing Florida on home ice, winning seven straight before seeing that streak come to an end with a 5-3 loss in the Panthers’ last visit 25 months ago. An average of 10 total goals have been scored over their past four dates, fueling a 7-1-0 run for the Over.
The Panthers have averaged an NHL-best 4.05 goals per game. However, they have tallied just 3.17 goals per game through the first six dates of their current seven-game road trip, with three of those contests getting settled in overtime or by shootout. The lack of prolific scoring has not diminished their dominance on the road, where they have won 11 of 14. But it has contributed to uneven results in totals betting, where the Over is on a 3-3-0 run, and gone 1-0-2 in their past three when the total is pegged at 7.0 The Maple Leafs badly outshot Montreal by a wide 51-18 margin on Saturday, but were unable to close the deal in their third straight road loss. The club has fared far better at home, winning four of five. However, they have won just four of nine in the second game when playing on consecutive nights.
Florida Panthers
Like the Maple Leafs, the Panthers dominated the Senators on Saturday night but were forced to overcome a 3-0 deficit to eventually earn the win. Once again, new addition Claude Giroux played a key role, recording a pair of assists, and has now tallied four points in two games since being acquired from Philadelphia at the Trade Deadline. Aleksander Barkov potted the tying goal and sealed the win in the shootout. The Panthers captain has now scored in consecutive games for the first time since January and recorded a point in four straight contests.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs topped 50 shots for the second time this season in Saturday’s loss, but once again failed to get a clutch performance in goal, where Erik Kallgren made just 14 saves. The question now is whether Petr Mrazek can do any better when he takes the ice versus the Panthers. Mrazek has allowed four or more goals in four of five appearances but has compiled a 6-1-0 record over eight home appearances so far this season.
