Fans of the Ottawa Senators have been treated to plenty of free hockey – and whether that stretch continues will be the story of the night as Ottawa visits the Calgary Flames. The Senators have gone to a shootout in each of their first three games, but have won just one of those games. The Flames are one of the hottest teams going, winners of three in a row as they kick off a stretch of three home contests in a four-game span.

NHL Odds and Betting Analysis

The Flames have the edge here – not only because of home ice-advantage and momentum, but because of a red-hot power play that has produced four goals during the winning streak. Newly-signed powerplay wizard Jaromir Jagr should only help that unit moving forward, too. It’s worth noting that Calgary has prevailed in nine of its last 11 games against Eastern Conference opponents dating back to last season. The Flames have also played to the over in six of their previous eight home games.

As good as the Flames have been versus the East, the Sens have been nearly as impressive against foes Pacific foes, winning 27 of their last 38 games against the division. And their showdowns with those teams have been largely high-scoring affairs, going over in 34 of the previous 51 encounters. Ottawa will look to counter Calgary’s impressive man advantage showing with a penalty-kill unit that is a perfect 9-for-9 this season.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa offense has slumbered early in the season, registering just seven regulation goals through three games. Part of the reason for that is the absence of sensational defenseman Erik Karlsson, who is dealing with a foot injury that has kept him out of the first three contests. He didn’t accompany the team on its West Coast trip but is hoping to return sometime next week. Ottawa went 29-12-6 in games last season in which Karlsson recorded at least one point.

Calgary Flames

Last season could be considered a step back for electrifying Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau, who saw his point total dip by 17 over the previous season. But he’s off to a flying start in 2017-18, racking up seven points over the first four games. Four different players have man-advantage goals for Calgary, which sits in the top 10 in both man-advantage conversion rate (23.5 percent) and penalty kill (93.3 percent).
