Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Prediction, NHL Odds
Dallas is in the hunt for the Presidents’ Trophy as the team with the most points through the regular season. They are one point behind the Rangers for the lead, with less regulation wins. Although some believe the trophy is cursed, the Stars won it back in 1999 and followed it up with the Stanley Cup.
Puck drop from American Airlines Canter is at 9:30 p.m. ET Wednesday and our NHL odds have the Stars as a slight favourite to win, at -120 on the moneyline. The OVER/UNDER set at an even six goals.
Oilers vs. Stars NHL Betting Odds
Wednesday’s meeting will be the third and final of the regular season between the Oil and Stars. Both of their previous matchups have had a 4-3 finish, with Dallas winning the first and Edmonton sneaking out the second in overtime. In both games, the visiting team came out with the win.
The Oilers were held to just two goals in their most recent outing, snapping a streak of seven straight games with three or more goals. The Oilers have been the fourth-highest-scoring team this season, averaging just over 3.5 per game. The goal-scoring has helped them hit the OVER in five of their past seven outings, but do not sleep on their defensive game. They rank in the top 10 for goals-against and held opponents to one goal in back-to-back games before their most recent outing.
Dallas is one of the only teams that has been scoring more than the Oilers this season, sitting third overall at just over 3.6 per game. They have hit the OVER 42 times in 75 games, tying for the most in the league. Their seven-game win streak has been dominant, covering the spread in each win because of their shut-down defensive game. The heater consists of holding opponents to two or fewer in six of the seven games.
Edmonton Oilers
Nothing went right for the Oilers on Monday night, losing to the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in overtime to snap their three-game win streak. The Oilers opened the scoring seven minutes into the first before the bad luck began. Evander Kane thought he had snapped his career-high 20-game goalless drought, but it was called back due to a high stick. The Oilers put another one behind the Blues’ netminder but it was also called back because of goalie interference. The Blues rallied after the two non-goals and scored one of their own to tie it 1-1. The Blues scored again early in the third before Leon Draisaitl (39) tied it at two, allowing the game to head to overtime.
Edmonton’s No 97, Connor McDavid, picked up his 97th assist in the game, putting his season total at 126 points to sit just one back of the league lead. After a slow start, McDavid is now the favourite to win the Art Ross Trophy at -140 on our NHL futures board. The 27-year-old has already won the trophy five times, so the more impressive feat this season would be him hitting the 100-assist mark. Only Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux have hit that plateau in a season.
Dallas Stars
The Stars made their seventh win in a row look like a walk in the park on Saturday night, holding the Seattle Kraken to a measly 17 shots and shutting them out 3-0 in their own barn. The 20-year-old Wyatt Johnston opened the scoring with just 1:48 left in the second period, swinging momentum in the Stars’ favour. With momentum on their side, the Kraken took a five-minute major in the opening seconds of the second and Joe Pavelski pounced, picking up his 26th goal of the year. Roope Hintz (28) sealed the deal in the empty net and the Stars extended the win streak to seven games. Jake Oettinger secured his second shutout of the season.
Johnston, in his sophomore season, has 29 goals and 59 points. He leads the team in goals and is fifth in points as the youngest player on the roster. Johnston is currently on the Stars’ third line and one of seven players on the roster with over 50 points, going to show just how deep this Stars team is built.
Currently, the hottest team in the league and only one point out of first overall, the Stars will be pushing for the Presidents’ Trophy. They are listed as the second favourite to win the hardware, paying out +200.
