Last time these teams met, the Winnipeg Jets embarrassed the Edmonton Oilers in a four-game series sweep in the first-round of the playoffs.  Edmonton, who boasts the last two Hart Trophy winners and current Top-2 scoring leaders in the NHL, extended their lead atop the Western Conference with a 5-4 win in St. Louis on Sunday.  Winnipeg sits second in the Central Division following a 3-2 overtime win against the Kings on Saturday.

This game opened as a pick’em on the NHL odds, with a total of 6.0.

Oilers vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

Between meeting in the playoffs and the temporary divisional realignment, these teams saw a lot of each other last year.  Winnipeg swept the playoff series, but Edmonton dominated in the regular season, winning seven of nine contests, including the last six.  That made the playoff sweep all the more shocking.

It’s hard to find a weakness in Edmonton this year, as they sit at 11-3 on the season, including 5-2 on the road.  The Oilers are 7-7 against the spread, covering in four of seven road games.  An incredibly high scoring offence has got the job done, as Edmonton has hit the Over in five of their last seven games and nine times on the season.

The Jets have thrived at home this season, where they’ve gone 6-1-1.  They’re 8-6 ATS overall and they’ve been a particularly good cover option in Winnipeg, going 6-2 ATS at Canada Life Centre.  Lately the Jets have trended toward the Under, falling short of the number in four of their last five games.

Edmonton Oilers

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl’s torrid pace to start of the season continued on Sunday.  Draisaitl finished with a goal and two assists and now leads the NHL scoring race with 31 points (15G, 16A) in 14 games.  McDavid had a goal and an assist, becoming the sixth-fastest player in NHL history to record 600 career points.  The Oilers captain has recorded a point in all 14 games this season and sits second in NHL scoring with 27 points (10G, 17A).  Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan McLeod and Kailer Yamamoto also scored in the win.  Nugent-Hopkins’ 17 assists is tied with McDavid for most in the NHL.  Mikko Koskinen stopped 35 of 39 shots faced.  With Mike Smith reportedly suffering a setback in his return from injury, Koskinen will likely start again on Tuesday.  Koskinen is 9-1-0 this season, with a 2.74 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.

Winnipeg Jets

Mark Scheifele was the hero on Saturday, scoring his first goal of the season 32 seconds into overtime.  The goal broke a four-game scoring drought for Scheifele, who has had a slow start to the year with four points (1G, 3A) in eight games.  Dylan DeMelo’s shorthanded goal in the third period tied the game, while Kyle Connor scored the game’s opening goal in the first period.  Connor leads the team in both points (19) and goals (11).  Connor Hellebuyck stopped 27 of 29 shots faced and should be the starter on Tuesday.  Hellebuyck is 5-2-3 this season, posting a 2.87 GAA and .911 SV.
