Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds
This battle of Alberta is shaping up to be entertaining, with both teams coming in at their best. The Oilers are the hottest team in the league, having won 12 games in a row, while Calgary is fresh off a season-high four-game win streak and is 7-3 in their last 10.
Puck drop from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary is set for 10:00 PM EST. Our NHL odds have the Oilers as a heavy -150 favourite on Saturday night, with the OVER/UNDER set at 7 goals.
Oilers vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds
The storyline has flipped on its head since these teams last met on October 30th for the outdoor game. Coming into the Heritage Classic, both teams had just two wins with almost 10 games in the books, while this time the teams are coming in as good as they have been this season.
Edmonton took the Heritage Classic 5-2 holding Calgary to just a pair of powerplay markers. Evander Kane led the way for Edmonton with a goal, two assists and four penalty minutes and goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 24 of 26 for the win.
This will be the 296th meeting all-time between the Provincial rivals and Calgary has the better record at 141-130-24. The Oilers have been getting the best of this matchup lately tho, winning seven of the past 10 meetings, including all of the past three. The matchups are typically hard-hitting and high-scoring, playing the over 6-3-1 in the last 10.
Edmonton is still trying to pull their record against the spread back to even, sitting at 19-22 on the season. They are tied for the fourth-highest-scoring team in the league at 3.51 goals per game but are still just 18-20-3 on the OVER/UNDER.
Despite having their win streak snapped Thursday night, losing by one goal to the Maple Leafs was enough for the Flames to cover the spread for the seventh time in their last 10 games. The cover boosted their record ATS to 23-22 on the season.
Edmonton Oilers
This Oilers team is oozing with confidence after picking up their twelfth straight win Thursday, tying them with the 1967-68 Canadiens for the longest win streak by a Canadian franchise.
The 4-2 win over the Seattle Kraken was their fifth come-from-behind victory in a row as they fell behind 2-0 in the first period. Warren Foegele’s first goal of the game less than 40 seconds into the second, sparked the Oilers to four unanswered goals to take the win. Foegele had a pair of goals and Leon Draisaitl had four points (1G 3A), while Stuart Skinner made 25 saves for his ninth straight win.
Usually known for their elite offence, it has been the impressive defence the Oilers have played throughout their 12-game win streak that is turning heads league-wide. They have not given up more than three goals, in the past 12 and have kept opponents to two or fewer in the last 10.
Calgary Flames
It looked as though the Flames were going to cruise to their fifth straight win on Thursday night when they took an early 2-0 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs on home ice. Unfortunately for them, the Leafs would score four consecutive goals in the second to go up 4-2. Calgary scored before the end of the middle frame but was held off in the third, falling just short 4-3.
Jonathan Huberdeau had a pair of assists in the game, picking up multiple points for the third time in the past five games. After a disastrous start to the year, Huberdeau is finding some rhythm this month with nine points through eight games in January. He had just a single assist in December, which can not happen if the Flames want to be successful.
Starting netminder Jacob Markstrom has missed the team’s past two games with a lower-body injury, but head coach Ryan Huska says there is a chance Markstrom could return for Saturday’s Battle of Alberta. Amid a bounce-back season, Markstrom has won five of his past six starts and has boosted his save percentage to .912.
