New York Islanders at Columbus Blue Jackets
NYI: Semyon Varlamov (confirmed)
The Islanders are playing the second game of a back-to-back, so it will be Varlamov (1-2-1, 3.72 GAA, .856 SV) on Wednesday. He’ll look to get back in the win column after allowing five goals on 28 shots in his last outing, a 6-3 loss against Florida.
CBJ: Elvis Merzlikins (confirmed)
Merzlikins (1-2-0, 2.76 GAA, .900 SV) has been outplayed by Daniil Tarasov early in the season, but he looked great in his last start while making 31 saves in a 6-1 win over the Oilers on Monday.
Winnipeg Jets at Detroit Red Wings
WPG: Connor Hellebuyck (likely)
Hellebuyck (6-1-0, 2.14 GAA, .925 SV) has been sensational to begin the year. He’s coming off a 30-save performance in his first loss of the season, but Hellebuyck and the Jets can’t win every game.
DET: Alex Lyon (confirmed)
Through Detroit’s first nine games, Lyon (2-2-0, 2.05 GAA, .940 SV) is winning the battle for control of a crowded crease. He’s given the Red Wings a chance to win despite their abysmal average of 2.78 goals scored per game.
Tampa Bay Lightning at Colorado Avalanche
TBL: Andrei Vasilevskiy (unconfirmed)
Vasilevskiy (5-3-0, 2.53 GAA, .905 SV) has been a bit hit or miss this season, but outside of a three-game stretch that resulted in losses against Ottawa, Toronto and Minnesota, he’s been solid overall.
COL: Kaapo Kahkonen (confirmed)
Kahkonen will make his Avalanche debut after being claimed off waivers from Winnipeg a few weeks ago. He did a two-game conditioning stint in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, posting a .919 save percentage before being recalled yesterday.
Calgary Flames at Utah Hockey Club
CGY: Dustin Wolf (unconfirmed)
Wolf (3-1-0, 2.74 GAA, .924 SV) stopped 30 of 34 shots faced against Winnipeg on Saturday, but suffered his first loss of the season. He’s split starts with Dan Vladar, so it should be his turn on Wednesday.
UTA: Karel Vejmelka (unconfirmed)
Vejmelka gave up five goals on 26 shots in a 5-1 loss to the Avalanche last Thursday. He’s had almost no goal support, as Utah has scored just one goal total in the three games he’s played this season.
Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings
VGK: Adin Hill (unconfirmed)
Hill (4-2-0, 3.20 GAA, .878 SV) will be trying to build on the momentum of his first shutout of the season, although he only need to make 16 saves in a 5-0 win against Calgary on Monday.
LAK: Darcy Kuemper (likely)
Kuemper (2-0-2, 3.20 GAA, .897 SV) returned from a lower-body injury to make 23 saves in a 3-2 win over Utah on Saturday. David Rittich played Tuesday night, so it should be Keumper on Wednesday.
New Jersey Devils at Vancouver Canucks
NJD: Jacob Markstrom (unconfirmed)
Markstrom (4-3-1, 3.01 GAA, .895 SV) has played a bit below expectation this season. After allowing 10 goals in a two-game stretch, he bounced back with 24 saves on 26 shots in his last outing, a 6-2 New jersey win over the Ducks on Sunday.
VAN: Kevin Lankinen (unconfirmed)
Lankinen (4-0-2, 2.29 GAA, .920 SV) made 28 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss against Carolina on Monday. It snapped a four-game win streak, although he has still not lost in regulation this season.
