NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Clinching Scenarios for April 13: Flyers looking for first playoff berth since 2020
It’s the last week of the 2025-26 NHL regular season and there’s still plenty to be determined ahead of the opening of the playoffs on Saturday.
From playoff spots and playoff matchups to division and conference titles, there is no shortage of clinching scenarios for Monday, April 13.
Here’s everything up for grabs.

Eastern Conference
Carolina Hurricanes clinch Eastern Conference top seed:
- If they secure at least one point against the Philadelphia Flyers (7 p.m. ET).
OR
- If the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Buffalo Sabres in any fashion (8:30 p.m. ET).
Buffalo clinches the Atlantic Division title:
- If the Sabres defeat Chicago in regulation AND the Tampa Bay Lightning do not win in regulation against the Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m. ET).
The Montreal Canadiens (not playing) and Tampa Bay are locked into the Atlantic Division 2 vs. 3 first round playoff series (home ice TBD):
- If the Sabres clinch the Atlantic Division.
Philadelphia clinches Metropolitan Division playoff spot No. 3 and first round playoff series against Metro No. 2 Pittsburgh Penguins:
- If they win against the Hurricanes in any fashion.
Western Conference
Anaheim Ducks (not playing) clinch playoff spot:
- If the San Jose Sharks beat the Nashville Predators in any fashion (8 p.m. ET).
Los Angeles Kings clinch playoff spot:
- If they defeat the Seattle Kraken in any fashion (9:30 p.m. ET) AND the Sharks beat the Preds in regulation.
