Hellebuyck is undergoing a minor arthroscopic knee procedure to deal with an issue that has reportedly been bothering the reigning Hart Trophy winner for a while.

Winnipeg head coach Scott Arniel said on Friday that the injury has been nagging Hellebuyck more and more.

The 32-year-old Hellebuyck last played on Saturday, making 31 stops in a 4-3 shootout win over the Calgary Flames. He is 8-6-0 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .913 save percentage this season.

Hellebuyck is coming off a dominant season last year. He went 47-12-3 with a 2.00 GAA and .925 SV, leading the Jets to the Presidents’ Trophy as the team with the best record in the NHL. The performance earned Hellebuyck his second straight Vezina Trophy and third of his career.

Winnipeg Jets

Eric Comrie will be Winnipeg’s starter in Hellebuyck’s absence. Comrie finished with 22 saves in the Jets’ 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. The 30-year-old is 4-1-0 with a 2.60 GAA and .908 SV this season.

Thomas Milic has been called up from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose to serve as Comrie’s backup. Drafted 151st overall by Winnipeg in 2023, Milic is 5-2-2 with a 2.14 GAA and .921 SV in the AHL this season.

The Jets enter Friday third in the Central Division with a 12-7-0 record. They sit at +1200 to win both the Central Division and the Western Conference and they are +2500 to win the Stanley Cup.
