NHL Odds: When will Alex Ovechkin reach 900 career goals?

Alex Ovechkin is looking to make more history.

After breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record last season, Ovechkin is one snipe away from becoming the first player in NHL history to score 900 regular season goals.

Alex Ovechkin

Ovechkin broke Gretzky’s record late last season with his 895th career goal. Finishing the year with 897 career goals, Ovechkin has lit the lamp twice in 2025-26, brining his career total to 899.

Ovechkin’s first goal of the 2025-26 campaign came at home against Minnesota on Oct. 17. He also scored in Columbus on Friday.

The 40-year superstar has absolutely terrorized goalies throughout his career, winning a record nine Rocket Richard trophies. He holds the record for most 40-goal seasons in NHL history at 13 and he’s tied with Gretzky and Mike Bossy for most 50-goal seasons at nine.

The Great 8 hasn’t slowed down with age as his 44 goals in 65 games last season is a pace of 55.5 goals over a full 82-game schedule.

The Capitals are back on the ice in Dallas on Tuesday, but I’ve got Friday’s Halloween home game against the Islanders circled for Ovechkin’s 900th career goal. After all, it would be fitting given it’s the same team he broke Gretzky’s record against.

Washington Capitals

The Capitals are aiming to show last year wasn’t a fluke after they posted the best regular season record in the Eastern Conference.

Washington is currently holding down the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 6-3-0 start. The Caps have the third-shortest odds to win the Metropolitan Division at +700, trailing New Jersey (+185) and Carolina (-115).
