NHL Odds and Betting Analysis
Since October of 2013, these two teams have met eight times, with the teams splitting the series 4-4. Last season no exception, with the Canadiens winning 7-4 at home, and the Jets returning the favor 3-1 at home. Of note, the over is 4-1 in the last five games these two teams have played in Winnipeg, and the Jets are 11-0 in their last 11 games playing on one day’s rest. In eight road games this season, the Canadiens are 2-6.
Montreal Canadiens
It’s been a disappointing start to the season for the Montreal Canadiens. At 4-8-1 the Habs are last place in the Atlantic division. The team is at the midway point of a four-game road trip that saw them blast the Senators 8-3, but fall to the Wild 6-3. In that most recent game Carey Price allowed five goals on 27 shots, and hasn’t been vintage Carey Price this season. He owns a 3-7-1 record, with a goals against of 3.77 (42nd in the league) and a save percentage of .77 (45th in the league). To place all the blame on Price isn’t fair either as the team hasn’t exactly helped him out on offence, ranked 28th in the league in goals per game (2.54), 28th on the power-play (13.5), and 30th in shooting percentage (6.8). On Friday the team announced that the veteran goaltender has a minor lower-body injury. Al Montoya will get the start against his former team. Montoya played two seasons in Winnipeg between 2012-14.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets are flying high entering this game. Currently on a three-game winning streak, the Jets are second in the Central division with a 7-3-2 record. On Thursday night, Mark Scheifele scored his second career hat trick to help the Jets knock off the Dallas Stars 5-2. Scheifele now is tied for the team lead in points (7-8-15) with Blake Wheeler. Sniper Patrik Laine broke a four-game pointless streak in the win registering his fifth goal of the year. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to make his ninth start of the season Saturday night. He’s been the main reason the Jets sit near the top of the Eastern Conference, with a 1.92 goals against, and a save percentage of .938. He is also undefeated in regulation.
