Monday's NHL betting picks: Bruins will bounce back
Frank is back with today’s Puck Luck, your top NHL betting picks.
Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes (+125, 5)
The Bruins had a four-game winning streak Friday in Ottawa, but that’s more of a blip than anything else. Boston gave up the go-ahead goal five minute into the third period against the Sens and could mount a comeback.
“I don’t think it was a step back,” GM Peter Chiarelli told reporters. “I think it was partially due to fatigue. It was one loss among four-five wins. Now we get two days of rest. Maybe ask me that question again after two-three more games, but I don’t see anything disturbing going on.”
Chiarelli has that right. The Bruins will get back to work Monday by grinding down the Hurricanes. Look for Boston to get back on track before finishing up this road trip at Madison Square Garden.
Pick: Bruins
Calgary Flames at Winnipeg Jets (-160, 5.5)
You knew the Flames’ hot start wasn’t going to last. They’re a young team that got out of the gate quickly and plays hard, but doesn’t have the talent or experience to keep stringing wins together.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead Saturday at home against the Edmonton Oilers, the Flames completely fell apart in the third. They gave up four goals in the final 20 minutes.
The Oilers should be ready for this Jets team that ranks sixth in the league averaging 32 shots per game. The Jets should get the win here, but the price is a little high for this spot. We’ll take the over instead.
Pick: Over 5.5
Anaheim Ducks at Pittsburgh Penguins (-160, 5.5)
A lot of big names will be sharing the ice tonight in Pittsburgh – Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf – but don’t let that fool you into betting on a high-scoring game.
The Penguins have dropped four of five while managing just a single goal in each of those defeats. This will also be Anaheim’s last date on its current four-game road swing. This game will be tight-checking.
Pick: Under 5.5
