Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New York Rangers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Maple Leafs are coming off a narrow 6-5 victory in St. Louis, but have yet to post back-to-back wins through the first four dates on their current six-game road trip. The Rangers ride a two-game win streak after closing out their recent five-game road trip with a 3-2 victory in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Toronto is a -151 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 5.5.
Maple Leafs vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds
The Rangers are pegged as underdogs for the fifth time in six home dates, sporting diminished +131 odds. The total is unchanged since opening at 5.5, but with the backing of 93 per cent of sports bettors, the OVER has emerged as a -114 favourite.
Wednesday night’s matchup at Madison Square Garden marks the third and final meeting of the regular season between these Original Six rivals. Each club claimed a 2-1 decision in a pair of meetings in Toronto earlier this season. However, the Rangers have posted wins in five of seven head-to-head meetings while limiting Toronto to three or fewer goals on five occasions. The OVER has emerged as a reliable bet, paying out in three of five head-to-head matchups including the past two clashes on Broadway between these clubs.
Overall, Toronto shooters have averaged 4.38 goals per game during a 6-1-1 run, and have potted four goals per game over their past five road dates. However, the Maple Leafs have also allowed 3.75 goals per game on their current road trip. In contrast, New York has allowed just two total goals during its current 2-0-0 run, and just 1.88 goals per game during the team’s current 6-2-0 run. That has spawned a steady 6-0-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting.
Toronto Maple Leafs
For the third time in four games, the Leafs blew an early lead in Saturday’s win over St. Louis. Toronto quickly seized a 3-1 lead, but were forced to muster a pair of third-period markers to earn the win. The club also squandered an early 3-0 lead in last week’s 5-4 loss in Colorado, and twice allowed Vegas to erase deficits before earning a 4-3 shootout win. The Maple Leafs got a lift from the return of Mitch Marner, who tallied a goal and an assist in St. Louis. And Auston Matthews has racked up five goals so far on this road trip. However, the duo failed to score in the team’s two meetings with the Rangers earlier this season.
New York Rangers
The Rangers have benefited from outstanding goaltending during their climb to the top of the Metropolitan Division standings. Igor Shesterkin has gone 9-1-0 over his past 10 appearances, allowing just 13 total goals and recording shutouts in two of his past three starts. Conversely, Artemi Panarin has particularly struggled on offence, scoring just once in his past 10 outings. Panarin has also scored just three total goals in 13 appearances against Toronto since 2013.
