Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds
The Jets could pull themselves within two points with one extra game to play as the NHL season winds down to its last 10 games.
Maple Leafs vs. Jets 4/22/21 Betting Analysis
Despite losing five games in a row, the first place Maple Leafs are still the -136 favourite tonight. The season series sits in Toronto’s favour 4-3 but the Jets have outscored them 20-19. Winnipeg, coming off a loss, is 6-3-1 in their last 10 and have not lost two in a row since March 11th versus Toronto. 62 percent of bettors are siding with the underdog tonight.
The total is set at 6 tonight and 83 percent of Sport Interaction customers are betting on the over. Four of the seven matchups this year have played the over, all of them having seven goals. Toronto wants to keep the game low-scoring tonight as they have won every game that has been under the total versus the Jets.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto, in the midst of its worst losing skid of the season, has been out-scored 21-10 by their opponents in the past five games. The Leafs’ goaltending has taken a lot of criticism for their recent performances as David Rittich and Jack Campbell combine for a .839 save percentage. Campbell set a Leafs record going undefeated through his first 11 games, but has not won one since. The best Maple Leaf over the stretch has been captain John Tavares, picking up 14 points in the past 10 games.
The injuries are starting to pile up for Toronto just as playoff season arrives. First, they lost starting goalie Frederik Andersen on March 18 who has been dearly missed, then it was forwards Ilya Mikheyev and Zach Hyman who have both missed the last game. Zach Bogosian was added to that list as well after leaving the game versus Vancouver. Luckily, deadline pick-up Nick Foligno could join the team tonight for his debut.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have been ready and waiting for redemption after losing 3-0 to the Oilers on Saturday night. It was only the second time the Jets were shut out this year, as they are averaging 3.20 goals a game, good for ninth in the league.
Mark Scheifele had his six-game point streak snapped in the shutout loss. Scheifele has been the Jets most consistent forward all year leading the way in points with 59. To make matters even better, he gets his linemate and captain Blake Wheeler back on his wing tonight. Wheeler missed six games after being diagnosed with a concussion after taking an elbow to the face.
Winnipeg’s bread and butter this year has been their fourth-ranked power play, it converted twice last game against a Leafs team who’s penalty kill is ranked 29th in the league. They lead the league in powerplay goals with 28.
The new guy in town, Jordie Benn, is set to make his Jets debut as well. Benn came over at the trade deadline and has been practicing on a defence line with Dylan Demelo.
