The trade is the first major roster shakeup for the new Maple Leafs regime of general manager John Chayka and senior executive advisor Mats Sundin.

The team was widely expected to move a goaltender this summer after Woll, Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby all saw playing time in the NHL last season.

Toronto also holds the first selection in the 2026 NHL draft on June 26. They are largely expected to take Penn State winger Gavin McKenna with the pick.

Woll, Benoit

Woll, 27, had a steady, but unspectacular season with Toronto in 2025-26, posting a 15-16-7 record with a 3.31 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 39 starts.

After being picked by the Leafs in the third round of the 2016 NHL draft, Woll spent three years at Boston College. He played his way up through the AHL Marlies and made his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season.

Injuries have been a consistent concern through the beginning of Woll’s professional career as he has averaged just 34 starts over three full NHL seasons.

In 117 NHL games, Woll has a 63-43-9 record with a 2.94 GAA and .906 SV.

Benoit, 27, spent the first three years of his NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks before playing the last three years in Toronto. The Laval, Que. native suited up in 73 games for the Maple Leafs last season, collecting six assists and finishing with a minus-22 rating, the worst mark among Toronto defencemen.

Benoit has produced six goals and 30 assists in 325 career NHL games.

Ersson, Andrae

Ersson is coming off a career-worst season in Philadelphia. The 26-year-old went 14-11-5 with a 3.12 GAA and .870 SV, losing the Flyers’ No. 1 job to Dan Vladar.

A fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft, Ersson has a 65-50-17 record across four NHL seasons, posting a 3.01 GAA and .884 SV.

Andrae, 24, has spent the majority of the last two years playing at the NHL level with the Flyers. He finished the 2025-26 season with two goals and 11 assists in 61 games, which are all career highs. He also added an assist in four playoff games.

Andrae was the 54th overall selection by Philadelphia in the 2020 draft.
