Maple Leafs Sign Former Kraken Goalie Martin Jones
Toronto has bolstered its situation between the pipes this summer. After arriving at a deal with undisputed starter Ilya Samsonov – albeit through arbitration – they have now secured themselves another reliable backup. Martin Jones, who spent last season with the Seattle Kraken, has signed a one-year deal worth $875,000.
Maple Leafs Add G Martin Jones to Backup Samsonov
It’s been a topsy-turvy offseason for the Toronto Maple Leafs. From a general manager change to a host of players coming and going, the club that lines up on opening night this October will definitely have a different vibe about it.
The latest new player to put on Maple Leafs colours is goalie Martin Jones. He was a huge part of why the Seattle Kraken earned its first-ever playoff berth in 2022-2023, posting a 27-13 win-loss record and 2.99 GAA. His save percentage of .886 was less than stellar, however.
Prior to that were stints with the L.A. Kings (he was backup to Jonathan Quick during the 2013-2014 championship season), San Jose Sharks, and Philadelphia Flyers.
It’s being said that Jones will be the third-string keeper in Toronto. The club has high hopes for Joseph Woll, who announced himself late in the regular season with some fine performances and some promising minutes in the postseason.
