Seattle Kraken vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds

The Seattle Kraken and Edmonton Oilers meet for the second time in five days, with Thursday’s bout taking place up in the Great White North.

Seattle’s been off since Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Edmonton, and over those four days off it’s safe to assume the Kraken were working on fixing a lull in scoring. Over an ongoing three-game losing streak, Seattle’s scored a total of two goals and have been shut out twice. Edmonton’s coming off a shutout loss of their own, falling 1-0 to Minnesota on Tuesday.

This Kraken–Oilers matchup has huge standings implications in the Western Conference. Seattle (28 points) is one point ahead of Edmonton (27 points) in the West and both teams are right in the middle of a cluster of teams fighting for the Wild-Card spots.

Puck drop at Rogers Place goes at 9 p.m. EST, with Edmonton a -235 moneyline favourite at home and the over-under at 5.5 on the NHL odds.

Kraken vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

The Kraken come into Thursday scoring the second-fewest goals in the NHL at 2.46 goals per game. On the flip side, Seattle is sixth in the NHL with 2.63 goals against per outing as the low-event hockey is doing is enough to keep the Kraken competitive in the West’s standings. The lack of goals on both ends is also pinning Seattle as a team well-familiar with the under. Five straight Kraken contests have gone under and 15 of their 24 on the season have finished under the total, the second-highest percentage in the NHL behind only the New York Rangers.

Six of the last eight Kraken–Oilers contests have finished under the total too. Edmonton holds a five-game home win streak over Seattle, and 10-2 record over the Kraken in their last 12 bouts. Thursday’s the third of three regular season meetings between these clubs, with Seattle winning 3-2 on October 25 and Edmonton 4-0 on November 29. The under hit in both games.

Seattle Kraken

The Kraken are 24 games into their season and only two skaters have more than five goals. It’s veteran forwards Jaden Schwartz and Jordan Eberle atop the team list with eight goals each, which isn’t nothing to brag about for a leading scorer at this point. Seattle did have Jared McCann back in the lineup two games ago and he’s now skating beside Eberle and Matty Beniers on the Kraken’s top line. McCann is far and away the Kraken’s leading goal-scorer in franchise history with 121 goals in four seasons, and three goals in seven outings this year.

Joey Daccord will likely be between the pipes in Edmonton. Daccord has played in 16 of Seattle’s 24 outings and is 7-5-4 with a .902 save percentage. He also faced Edmonton last on Saturday and let in four goals on only 25 shots faced.

Edmonton Oilers

Thursday is the second of four straight at home for the Oilers, who need to bounce back after getting goalie’d in the opener of this homestand. Edmonton registered 33 shots on net Tuesday but suffered a 1-0 loss, their first shutout loss this season. The positive news is Stuart Skinner put forth another good start in net and has stopped 49 of 50 shots faced over his past two showings. Skinner is now working his way up to a .900 save percentage on the season — something that this Oilers team would greatly appreciate at this point.

Leon Draisaitl’s eight-game point streak came to an end on Tuesday, but Thursday against Seattle is an opportunity to start a new streak. And Draisaitl along with Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Zach Hyman all had multi-point days last Saturday against the Kraken.
