Winnipeg Jets vs. Dallas Stars Game 4 Recap (May 13, 2025)

The Jets are in trouble.

They dropped Game 4 to the Stars 3-1 on Tuesday night, and now trail the series 3-1 with Game 5 set for Thursday back in Winnipeg. Mikael Granlund did all the damage for Dallas, scoring three times for his first playoff hat trick.

The frustrating part? Winnipeg didn’t play poorly. They had 70 shot attempts, controlled the pace for stretches, and created plenty of chances. But the finishing touch just wasn’t there.

“We had 70 shot attempts and scored one goal,” said Jets coach Scott Arniel. “We’ve got to find more than that.”

Granlund opened the scoring halfway through the first on the power play. Neal Pionk sagged off a bit, and Granlund made him pay with a low wrister that beat Hellebuyck glove side. The Jets had been buzzing before the penalty to Dylan DeMelo shifted momentum.

Winnipeg responded early in the second. Ehlers picked up a puck along the boards and snuck a sharp-angle shot five-hole just after a power play expired. It was a deserved goal for the push they started the period with.

But Dallas answered late. Granlund hopped on a 2-on-1 and picked the top corner to make it 2-1. Oettinger made a few key stops after that, including a huge save on a Kyle Connor breakaway in the third.

Granlund capped off the night on another Stars power play in the third. With just a few seconds left on a double-minor, he stepped into a one-timer from the circle and buried it high.

That was basically it.

“We’ve got to be harder on pucks,” said Ehlers. “That’s how we created chances all year. Right now we’re not getting the rebounds or second looks.”

Oettinger finished with 31 saves and got a boost from the return of Miro Heiskanen, who was playing his first game since January. The Stars looked settled and sharp, and now they’re a win away from the Western Conference Final.

For Winnipeg, the Presidents’ Trophy season is on life support.

“Just win one game,” said Hellebuyck. “That’s all we can do. Leave it all out there and see what happens.”

Game 5 goes Thursday night at Canada Life Centre. Puck drops at 8:30 p.m. local.
