Winnipeg Jets vs. Dallas Stars Game 3 Recap (May 11, 2025)
Sunday night’s Game 3 between the Jets and Stars had everything — early fireworks, a five-minute video review, and Mikko Rantanen continuing to play like he’s on a cheat code. Dallas came out on top with a 5–2 win, grabbing a 2–1 series lead and putting Winnipeg on its heels heading into Game 4.
The Jets came in as slight underdogs, paying +105 at Sports Interaction. Through two periods, it looked like they might steal one. Then came the third.
Alexander Petrovic broke a 2–2 tie with just over 16 minutes left, though no one in the building was sure if the goal would stand. The puck pinballed off his skate and into the net, and after a lengthy review, the league said Connor Hellebuyck had “propelled” the puck in with his stick. Jets coach Scott Arniel wasn’t buying it, pointing out that the rulebook says it has to deflect off a player’s stick or body, not the goalie’s. His quote: “I haven’t seen the word ‘propelled’ in the rulebook.”
The Stars didn’t waste the momentum. Just 49 seconds later, Rantanen, who already had two assists on the night, ripped one home for his ninth goal of the playoffs. He’s now sitting at 18 points and has factored in on 15 of Dallas’s last 17 goals.
Wyatt Johnston added the fifth on a rebound in the third. Roope Hintz and Thomas Harley also scored for Dallas. Sam Steel and Mikael Granlund each had two assists, and Jake Oettinger made 23 saves.
For the Jets, Kyle Connor scored on a first-period wraparound and Nino Niederreiter tied the game in the second after a slick setup from Josh Morrissey. Hellebuyck gave up five goals on 26 shots and is now 0–4 on the road this postseason with a 6.65 goals-against average. That stat won’t sit well with Jets fans — or anyone holding a Winnipeg series ticket.
Game 4 goes Tuesday night, and the Jets need more than just a bounce-back. They need answers.
