Vegas Golden Knights vs. Edmonton Oilers Game 4 Prediction, NHL Playoff Odds
Vegas gave up home ice advantage by dropping the first two games of this series, but they’ve put themselves in a spot to reclaim home ice following a 4-3 win in Game 3 on Saturday. Can the Golden Knights make this a best-of-five series, or will Edmonton take a 3-1 stranglehold?
The Oilers are -125 favourites to win Game 4 on the NHL odds, with the total set at a lofty 7.0.
Golden Knights vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
This has been an extremely tight series, with Game 2 decided in overtime and Game 3 decided with 0.4 seconds left in regulation. Game 4’s rare total of 7.0 could be a direct result of goaltending as Edmonton’s Stuart Skinner and Vegas’ Adin Hill rank among the worst save percentages of these playoffs.
With the Oilers up 2-1 in the series, they are now listed at -250 to win the series on the NHL futures board, while the Golden Knights are +200 underdogs. The favoured exact series result is Edmonton winning in six games at +240. Conversely, the biggest long shot is a Vegas win in six at +750.
If you’re looking for player props, it seems like a no-brainer to take Leon Draisaitl to score two-plus goals in any game of the series. Draisaitl, the NHL’s only 50-goal scorer during the regular season, leads the Oilers with five goals in the playoffs, including goals in two of three games against Vegas.
Edmonton is now listed at +375 to win the Stanley Cup, the third-shortest odds of all playoff teams and the shortest odds of the remaining Canadian teams. The Golden Knights are listed at +1100 to win their second Stanley Cup in three years.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas certainly knows how to make things entertaining, as Reilly Smith’s game-winning goal on Saturday with 0.4 seconds left in the regulation was the third-latest third period winning goal scored in playoff history. It was Smith’s second goal of the game, while William Karlsson and Nicolas Roy also found the back of the net. The Golden Knights battled back after trailing 2-0 midway through the first period.
If you want to nit-pick for some problems in Vegas’ Game 3 win, you can start in the crease. Adin Hill allowed two early goals and he gave up three overall in a game that saw him face just 20 shots (.850 SV). Hill has given up 12 goals in the three games of this series and he’s allowed three or more goals in six of nine games this postseason. Overall, he is 5-4 with a 3.14 goals-against average and .872 SV, numbers that are well below league-average.
Edmonton Oilers
Game 3 was a tough pill to swallow for Edmonton after they blew an early 2-0 lead. Corey Perry had the first two goals of the game and Connor McDavid had the Oilers’ third tally. Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard each finished with two helpers. Perry, who turns 40 on Friday, is tied with Draisaitl for most Oilers goals in the postseason at five apiece. Overall, Edmonton is the highest scoring team in the playoffs as they average 4.33 goals per game.
After allowing four goals on 23 shots faced in Game 3, the Oilers will turn back to Stuart Skinner for Game 4 on Monday. Calvin Pickard, who is 6-0 in the playoffs, still isn’t ready to play after suffering an undisclosed injury in Edmonton’s Game 2 win. Skinner has struggled heavily in the playoffs, posting an 0-3 record with a 5.36 GAA and .817 SV.
