montreal canadiens celebration

Montreal Canadiens at Washington Capitals (-130, 5.5)

A couple days ago we talked about how the Montreal Canadiens needed to bust out offensively and placed the responsibility directly on guys like Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher. Message received. Pacioretty scored a hat trick and Gallagher chipped in a pair of assists as the Habs downed the Wild 6-2. That’s just what they needed to get back on track. They take on a Caps club that’s struggling a bit offensively right now too and should be able to get out of DC with two points.

Pick: Canadiens

New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins (-230, 5.5)

Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals always bring out the best in Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Wednesday night Crosby had a goal and an assist, while James Neal also hit the score sheet to help the Pens down the Caps 4-0. After the win, Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma said it was “as complete a game as we played” and considering they outshot the Caps 40-18, it’s hard to argue that. Meanwhile, the Islanders are coming of an ugly 5-2 loss to Toronto and head into this game with the No. 28th scoring defence in the league. No value in the home team here so we’ll play over the 5.5 goals.

Pick: Over 5.5
