Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins Prediction, NHL Lake Tahoe Odds

The NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe weekend series will see a Sunday showdown between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers.  Originally scheduled to be a 2 p.m. ET start, game time has been moved back to 7:30 p.m. ET to make sure ice conditions are ideal.

Boston is a -188 favourite to win on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5.

Flyers vs. Bruins at Lake Tahoe Betting Analysis

Despite Boston winning all four games against the Flyers so far this season, the series has been closer than it seems.  Three of the games were decided by a single goal, including one game that went to overtime and one that went to a shootout.  The lone blowout game was a 6-1 Bruins win in Boston back on Jan. 23.  Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each had two goals in the game.

Philadelphia has been much better at hitting the Over on the road than at home this season.  The Flyers have hit the Over in five of nine home games and four of five road games.  They have also been fairly decent at covering the spread.  Philly is 9-5 against the spread overall, covering five times at home and four times on the road.

The Bruins have climbed to the top of the Eastern Division standings through their defensive abilities.  Boston has been an Under team in four of their last five games and nine of 15 games overall.  The Bruins are abysmal, however, at covering.  Boston is 3-12 ATS overall, covering twice at home and only once on the road.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia would probably rather delay the start time by a few days rather than a few hours, as they’ll be missing six regulars from the lineup because of COVID-19 protocols.  Defenceman Justin Braun, along with forwards Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton, Oskar Lindblom and Jakub Voracek have al been on the protocol list since at least Feb. 9.  Four of those players are in the top-seven for scoring on the team.

The Flyers are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Rangers on Thursday.  Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Joel Farabee had the goals, both assisted by Kevin Hayes.  Carter Hart stopped 31 of 33 shots.  Philly has been so short staffed, they had three players (Maksim Sushco, David Kase and Andy Andreoff) making their season debuts.  For Sushco, it was his NHL debut.  Philadelphia was shutout on five power play chances, dropping them to 2-for-23 on the man advantage over the past seven games.

Boston Bruins

As the No. 1 team in the Eastern Division, the Bruins aren’t feeling any extra pressure to need a win.  Boston, however, has just a three-point lead over the Flyers in the division, so Sunday is a great chance for them to get some separation in the standings.  The Bruins are coming off a 3-2 loss to New Jersey on Thursday.  Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak had the Boston goals.  Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves, but picked up his first regulation loss of the season.

Although the team is doing well overall, one player personally struggling has been Charlie Coyle.  Acquired from Minnesota in 2019, Coyle has had a revolving set of wingers to play with in a diminished role as the third line centre.  Coyle has managed just two goals and two assists in 15 games and hasn’t been able to play at any consistent level.
