Flames vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds
Tuesday is the third edition of the NHL’s Frozen Frenzy, and it’s just a fabulous idea where we get all 32 teams in action from 6 ET until the last game, Los Angeles at San Jose (starts at 11 ET), probably doesn’t end until nearly 1:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
In the United States, all 16 games are available on some form of ESPN, either the actual network or streaming on ESPN+. We could see history in the Washington at Dallas matchup, which starts at 8:30 ET, as Alex Ovechkin tries again to reach regular-season career goal No. 900.
This is the first of two meetings between the Flames and Maple Leafs with Toronto visiting Calgary on March 2. The Leafs have swept the season series each of the past three. Auston Matthews (2G, 4A) and William Nylander (4G, 2A) led Toronto with six points in last season’s series. Joseph Woll started both in net and had a 2.50 GAA and .904 SV but remains out this year injured – although he is nearing a season debut. The earliest he’s eligible to play is Saturday in Philadelphia. Jonathan Huberdeau (3A) led Calgary with three points. Dustin Wolf lost both outings with a 6.16 GAA and .818 SV.
Calgary Flames
The Flames won their first game of the season in Edmonton and then proceeded to lost eight in a row before knocking off the visiting New York Rangers on Sunday, 5-1, for that first home win. Blake Coleman was the No. 1 star with two goals, while Nazem Kadri had a goal and assist. Since joining the Flames prior to the 2022-23 season, Kadri’s 46 multi-point games are the most among all Calgary players. One of those Coleman goals, meanwhile, was shorthanded. He now has 19th career shorthanded goals, which is the fifth-most among active players. Mikael Backlund passed Theo Fleury (13) for the most shorthanded assists in Flames history and tied Peter Forsberg (32) for the fifth-most shorthanded points by a Swedish player in NHL history. American Dustin Wolf played his best game of the season in net for career win No. 39 in start No. 78. On Tuesday, he can become the third Flames goaltender to record 40 NHL wins in 80 starts or fewer, following David Rittich (67 games) and Mike Vernon (68). The over is 6-1 in Calgary’s past seven road games.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto snapped a three-game skid on Saturday by taking the back end of a home-and-home vs. Buffalo, 4-3 in overtime. John Tavares was the No. 1 star as he had the winner, his fifth goal of the season, at 1:28 of OT and also added a helper. The goal was his 19th career in overtime to tie Leon Draisaitl and Jaromir Jagr for the fourth most in NHL history behind only Alex Ovechkin (27), Sidney Crosby (24) and Brad Marchand (21). It was also Tavares’ 499th career regular-season marker. Matthew Knies had two assists. It was his third multi-point game of the season and the 20th multi-point game of his career. Backup Cayden Primeau was in net but it should be back to Anthony Stolarz tonight, although he’s not having a great season overall at 2-4-1 with a 3.31 GAA and .885 SV. He has been better at home (2-2-1, 2.79 GAA). William Nylander is in some question after missing Saturday’s game with a lower-body issue. He was able to participate in pre-game warmups before being scratched, so that bodes well for Tuesday. The over is 5-1 in Toronto’s past six games.
