Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens Prediction, NHL Odds

The Montreal Canadiens return home for the first time in 2026 when they host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.

The Canadiens wrapped up a seven-game road trip in which they finished 4-1-2, positioning themselves right around the top of the Atlantic Division at 23-13-6. The Flames have started off the new year with two losses, dropping them to 18-20-4. Calgary’s currently third-last in the Western Conference but five points out of the final playoff spot.

This five-game road trip for Calgary could make or break their slim playoff hopes, just like this four-game homestand for the Canadiens can help elevate them to the top of the Atlantic.

Puck drop at the Bell Centre is set for 7:30 p.m. EST with Montreal a -155 moneyline favourite on home ice, and the over-under at six on the NHL odds.

Flames vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

Coming in at 6-13-2 on the road this year, Calgary is one of the worst road teams in the league. Montreal’s only 10-9-1 on home ice this season though so this bout is a chance for one team to improve their splits. Head-to-head, the Flames are 4-1 in their last five against Montreal but the Canadiens got that lone win in their only other meeting this season — a 2-1 Habs victory in overtime back on October 22 where defenceman Mike Matheson scored the OT winner.

The under has hit in six of the last seven Flames–Canadiens meetings. Recent Calgary–Montreal games have been extremely low scoring, with the winning team scoring two or fewer goals in five of their last seven meetings. Calgary’s scored 21 goals in their last 10 games against Montreal, while the Canadiens scored 22 in that span against the Flames.

Calgary Flames

Dustin Wolf has played six straight games in net for Calgary as the Flames continue to push for a chance at the playoffs. Fatigue could be catching up for the workhorse goalie, as he’s allowed four goals each in back-to-back losses. Wednesday’s the beginning of a back-to-back for Calgary too, meaning this Montreal game could be a good spot to get Devin Cooley between the pipes. Cooley’s posted a .914 save percentage in 13 appearances this season, while Wolf is at .900.

Defenceman Rasmus Andersson has scored in two of Calgary’s last three games and is now second on the team with 27 points. Scoring continues to be a major issue for the Flames, they rank 30th with 2.62 goals per game, as they have just three players above 25 points now 42 games into the season. Team points leader Nazem Kadri has gone seven games without scoring.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens ended their road trip on a high note, beating Dallas 4-3 in overtime on Sunday. Lane Hutson scored the game-winning goal, Montreal’s seventh overtime victory this season. Hutson is second on the Habs with 42 points in as many games and is one of five Canadiens above 30 points this season, in comparison to Calgary’s one. Juraj Slafkovsky is one of those five and currently has the hot hand with five goals in last six outings.

Sam Montembeault picked up the win in net against Dallas and is now 2-0 since being recalled from an AHL conditioning stint. Montembeault is alongside Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler as the Canadiens continue to carry three goalies. The trio has rotated the past three games, indicating Wednesday would be Dobes’ turn in the crease. Dobes has an .889 save percentage in a team-leading 21 games played this season.
