New Jersey Devils vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
One team will see their win streak extended and for the other; a reality check.
Two of the league’s hottest teams, with identical 7-3 records, will battle for sole possession of third place overall in their first of two meetings this season. The Oilers are a -161 favourite to win on tonight’s NHL odds with the total set at 7.
Devils vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
These squads met twice last season, with each team grabbing a win on home ice. The matchups were both high-scoring affairs, with the Devils taking the first meeting 6-5 in overtime followed up by a 6-3 Oilers win. Jesper Bratt led the way in scoring for New Jersey with five points (2G, 3A) and Connor McDavid put up five points for Edmonton (3G, 2A) in the two-game set.
New Jersey has been rolling, picking up four consecutive wins and covering the spread in every game along the way, boosting their record ATS to 6-4. Offensively, the Devils are scoring 3.6 goals per game (6th in NHL) helping them play the Over in four of their past five games and putting them at 6-4 on the Over/Under this year.
Edmonton is riding a five-game win streak into tonight’s game, covering the spread in four of those games. The Oilers’ 4.1 goals per game is good for third in the NHL and has helped them to a 5-4-1 record against the total. They seem to play the Over every second game and if they continue the trend it will be going to the Under tonight.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils are off to an impressive start this season, leading the Metropolitan Division with a 7-3-0 record, thanks to their current four-game win streak. Their defensive play has been exceptional allowing only 2.5 goals against per game through their first 10.
Most recently they beat up on the struggling Vancouver Canucks opening their road trip with a dominant 5-2 win. Jack Hughes and Yegor Sharangovich each ended the night with a goal and an assist and Jesper Bratt had an assist to extend his point streak to 10 games (4G, 12A).
Mackenzie Blackwood took the win over the Canucks on Tuesday and has been splitting starts with Vitek Vanecek. Vanecek has the better stats for the tandem, going 3-1 with a 2.08 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Expect to see him between the pipes again Thursday.
The Devils will wrap up their western Canadian road trip on Saturday night in Calgary.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton’s big guns come out blasting in their 7-4 win over the Nashville Predators Tuesday night. Leon Draisaitl notched a goal and added four assists, Connor McDavid scored a pair and had a pair of assists and Evander Kane scored his fifth career hat trick as the Oilers rolled to their fifth straight victory.
Jack Campbell picked up his fifth win of the season stopping 19 of 23 shots. He has an impressive 5-2-0 record but paired with a lacklustre .881 save percentage and 3.91 goals against average, leaves more to be desired from their number one guy in net.
Stuart Skinner has been trading starts with Campbell early on this season and is expected to get the nod again on Thursday. He has won back-to-back starts and boasts an impressive 1.59 goals against average and .955 save percentage.
The Oilers will wrap up their three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon versus the Dallas Stars.
