Could Vladimir Tarasenko Join the Ottawa Senators?
The word out of Ottawa, at least as per certain sources and the Ottawa Sun (and carried by TSN) is that if the Ottawa Senators can find a landing spot for forward Alex DeBrincat, they could replace him with current free agent Vladimir Tarasenko.
What exactly is happening in the Senators’ front office?
Senators Looking for DeBrincat Trade
Alex DeBrincat has made it known that he is uninterested in signing a long-term deal with the Senators. As such, Ottawa have given permission to DeBrincat and the player’s agent to start talking with a few other clubs.
Word is that the Anaheim Ducks and New York Islanders are among interested parties.
TSN’s Darren Dreger, one of the most trusted sources for NHL news, has shared that DeBrincat would like a contract akin to what Timo Meier got with the New Jersey Devils, a long-term deal worth about $8.775 million per season. So far, teams that have shown interest in DeBrincat value him closer to $7.875 million a year.
DeBrincat has with the Ottawa Senators for only a year, having been acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks during a trade at last year’s NHL Entry Draft. He scored 27 goals and notched 39 assists in 82 games last season.
Vladimir Tarasenko started last year with the St. Louis Blues – with whom he won a Stanley Cup in 2019 – but was sent to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline. He is now an unrestricted free agent. His last productive campaign was quite recent. In 2021-2022 he scored 34 goals and added 48 assists for 82 points in 75 games.
