Colorado Avalanche re-acquire Nazem Kadri from Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames have traded Nazem Kadri to the Colorado Avalanche in the dying minutes of the 2026 NHL trade deadline.

Colorado also received a 2027 fourth-round draft pick and the Flames will retain 20 per cent of Kadri’s salary. In return, the Avalanche sent Calgary forward Victor Olofsson, the rights to unsigned prospect Max Curran, a conditional 2028 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-round pick.

Nazem Kadri

The Flames and Avalanche have had conversations about a trade for Kadri in the past and they circled back on Friday ahead of the 3 p.m. ET deadline.

Kadri, 35, has 12 goals and 41 points in 61 games for Calgary this season.

Originally drafted seventh overall by Toronto in 2009, Kadri previously spent three season with the Avs from 2019 to 2022.

His best season was in 2021-22 when he posted a career-high 87 points (28G, 59A) in the regular season. He then put up 15 points (7G, 8A) in the playoffs, helping the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup.

Colorado Avalanche

The addition of Kadri comes a day after Colorado acquired another centre, Nicolas Roy, from Toronto. The league-leading Avalanche now boast one of the strongest groups down the middle of the ice in the NHL, with Nathan MacKinnon, Brock Nelson, Kadri, Roy and Jack Drury.

Colorado is loading up for an absolute slugfest in the Central Division as Dallas is second overall in the NHL and Minnesota is fourth. The Avs are +270 Stanley Cup favourites, followed by Tampa Bay (+400), who they beat in the 2022 Stanley Cup Final.
