Cole Caulfield Signs Extension with Canadiens
Of the many problems that ail the Montreal Canadiens, a lack of goal-scoring is one of them. They weren’t even scoring much when Cole Caufield’s 2022-2023 season ended in January due to injury. The team hopes to course correct, and it started by signing the American to an eight-year, $62.8 million extension.

Cole Caufield Signs with the Canadiens
Drafted in 2019 first round by the Montreal Canadiens, Cole Caufield has been one of the few offensive sparks the club has been able to depend on over the past few seasons. Last season the team ranked 26th in goals scored per game, not a statistic that’ll help with playoff pushes.
But Habs faithful can breathe easy knowing that he’ll be back to put points on the scoresheet with Nick Suzuki next year. The Wisconsin native has signed an eight-year $62.8 million dollar contract extension, making him the second-highest player on the club behind captain Suzuki.
Caufield’s coming out party was the Cinderella 2021 Stanley Cup playoff push when he tallied 12 points in 20 games (four goals and 12 assists). The club made it to the final but lost in five games to the Tampa Bay Lightning. His first full rookie season was 2021-2022 during which his efforts earned him 43 points in 67 games.
But it was what he had started in 2022-2023 that really got the Canadiens brass and fans excited. Prior to being sidelined for shoulder surgery in January, he had 26 goals and 10 assists in only 46 games. As mediocre as the team was overall, he looked excellent on the ice.
A healthy Caufield and Suzuki are imperative to any potential success the Montreal Canadiens can have in 2023-2024. Word on the street is they also like what they see between the pipes with Sam Montembeault. Maybe, just maybe, we’re at the dawn of the new generation of memorable talent at the Bell Centre.
