Canucks vs. Panthers NHL Betting Odds
It has been four years minus a week since the Canucks last beat the Panthers on October 28th of 2019, meaning Florida has defeated Vancouver in each of their past five meetings. Over that span, the Panthers have outscored the Canucks by a score of 21-9, going 2-2-1 on the Over/Under with Florida covering the spread in three of five.
Vancouver games have been very high-scoring to open the season, with only one game featuring less than seven goals, putting their record on the Over/Under at 2-1-1. In four games, they were listed as the underdog in three, covering the spread each time. The ‘Nucks’ offence is clicking at 3.75 goals per game good for sixth in the NHL.
After dropping their first two games of the season as the favourite, the Cats bounced back winning two in a row as the Underdog. They are 2-2 on the Over/Under so far and have scored 11 goals and given up 12 as they are looking to find their identity early this season.
Vancouver Canucks
Rick Tocchet’s Canucks are looking to avoid a third straight loss after opening their season with back-to-back wins over the Edmonton Oilers. They opened the season at home before hitting the road for five straight games which will wrap up in Nashville on Tuesday.
Their most recent loss came on Thursday night when they visited the struggling Tampa Bay Lightning. Brock Boeser scored his fifth of the season, followed by Tyler Myers (1) and J.T. Miller (2) but would drop the game 4-3.
Vancouver was outshot for the third straight game, depending on their netminders to keep them in the battle. Thatcher Demko has been solid this season, giving up just seven goals on the 100 shots he’s faced, but he needs more from his teammates, as they have bee outshot 145-103 to date.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers got off on the right foot on home ice, beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 in the home opener of their 30th anniversary season. The game was a rematch of their second-round matchup of last year’s playoff series, which Florida won 4-1 en route to a Stanley Cup final appearance.
Kevin Stenlund and Oliver Ekman-Larsson both scored their first goals in a Panthers uniform before Sam Reinhart sealed the deal with an empty netter. Sergei Bobrovsky was near perfect in goal, stopping 29 of 30 shots thrown his way.
Reinhart’s goal extended his goal streak to three games as he leads the team early on with six points (4G 2A). The superstars on the team, Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk are both a point a game thus far, but have yet to notch their first goals of the season.
The win was the second in a row for the 2-2 Panthers as they look to make the playoffs for the fifth straight season.
