Two Hughes’ proved better than one in their first meeting of the season, just a month ago, with the Devils edging the Canucks in an exciting 6-5 game.

New Jersey has been heating up as of late winning five of their past six games and have moved up into playoff position as the first wild card team in the east.

The puck will drop at 9:00 PM EST from Prudential Canter in Newark, New Jersey. Keep updated on our Moneyline, Puckline and Over/Under for Tuesday’s matchup on our NHL odds.

Jack Hughes lead the way for his Devils in their 6-5 season series-opening win. The middle child had a goal and two assists one of which was on a goal by younger brother, defenceman Luke. Do not think for a second that the oldest brother Quinn would just watch his brothers dominate, as he would have two helpers in the third to spark a comeback tying the game 5-5. The game was just 34 seconds away from overtime when Jesper Bratt scored the game-winning goal to solidify a 6-5 Devils win.

New Jersey has been controlling this head-to-head over the past few years, moving to 9-1 in their past 10 meetings. Of those 10 games, six have come within a goal and they have split the OVER/UNDER 5-5.

Only three teams have covered the spread 26 times this season one of which has been this very impressive Canucks team. They have a 6-2-2 record over their past 10 but have covered in seven of those games. Vancouver is set as the Underdog on Saturday night’s matchup. As the highest-scoring team in the league at 3.76 goals per game, the Canucks have played the OVER 22 times, which is fourth most in the NHL.

The Devils are one of the few teams who have hit the OVER more than Vancouver sitting at 23-13-1 O/U. For the Canucks, it reflects on their potent offence while for the Devils, it is more of a goaltending issue. The team has a goals-against average of 3.49 which is the fifth worst in the league. They have a terrible 11-26 record on the spread after starting the season off slowly but have covered in three of the past four games.

Vancouver Canucks

Thatcher Demko made 30 saves, gave up two goals, and came out on the losing end of what was a goaltending battle between the Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues on Thursday Night.

It took less than two minutes for the Canucks to get on the board as Conor Garland fired a one-timer from the slot for his fourth goal of the season. Despite the hot start, Vancouver never managed to put another past the Blues netminder as they would allow a goal in the second and third periods for a 2-1 final.

Garland is playing on the team’s third line which has seen a lot of success since being thrown together. Garland, Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger have had at least a point in eight of the Canucks past nine games.

The loss was their second of the three since the holiday break and they were held to a single goal in both losses.

The game in St. Louis was the first of a seven-game road trip, the longest of the season. They are just 10-7-2 on the road this year and are 2-1-2 in their past five as the visitors.

New Jersey Devils

The Devils made a comeback last night versus Chicago, taking a 4-2 win on home ice. The Blackhawks held the lead after the first and after the second, but a pair of goals in the third period got the Devils the win.

The youngsters powered New Jersey in this one as 21-year-old Alexander Holtz tied the game in the second and 19-year-old Simon Nemec tied it again in the third. They both finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Vitek Vanacek made 23 saves in the win boosting his record to 14-7-1. Despite having a pretty good record, his .844 save percentage and 3.29 goals-against average is not good enough. That is the reason he has been spitting the net with 23-year-old Nico Daws over the past few games. Daws is 2-0 since being called up to the big league and will likely start tonight versus Vancouver.

The team is hoping to have Jack Hughes in the lineup tonight after he left last night’s game very late. He left holding his arm after playing 21 minutes and coach Lindy Ruff did not provide an update post-game.
