Canucks Can Do It According to NHL Odds
Frank Doyle looks back on the weekend hockey action, and notes that Vancouver looks like the best team in the League right now.
The game with the biggest handle over the weekend was on Friday night, when Chicago was a road underdog at Vancouver. The Stanley Cup Champions have been struggling all season – as happens when you sell your best players after winning the cup – and the Canucks have been flying.
Vancouver’s flight continued on home ice on Friday but the Blackhawks turned up to make a fight of it – Chicago led 3-2 with ten minutes to go only for the Sedin brothers, first Henrik and then Daniel, to both score goals and break Blackhawk hearts.
The Canucks went on to beat Ottawa last night to extend their winning streak to seven, and further Vancouver’s claim as the hottest team in Hockey in NHL Betting. The Canucks will be home ice favorites tomorrow night when Anaheim visits Vancouver, but it would still be a mistake to underestimate the Ducks.
Anaheim is one of the streaky teams in the league but there are a lot of veterans there and there isn’t much they haven’t seen. The Ducks and Kings are second and dead last in the Pacific but only five points separates first to fifth – that one’s going down to the wire.
LA hadn’t won in Calgary in six years but that changed on Saturday night when the Kings won 4-3 after a shootout. That’s two straight for the up and down Kings, who might find it tougher on Thursday when they face the Penguins in Pittsburgh. The citizens of that town may need cheering up this week, and turning over a team from LA generally does it.
The reality of Pittsburgh’s injury problems was brought home when the Penguins got something of a chasing up and down the ice at Washington on Sunday. The Capitals have been struggling this year and relished the chance to push the Penguins around in a 3-0 win.
It’ll be fun when they face off again in Pittsburgh on February 21st, to see if Pittsburgh can square the series, or if Washington can start building a Stanley Cup run by dominating its greatest modern-day rival.
