The St. Louis Blues had one of the toughest season-opening schedules in the NHL – but you wouldn’t know it by their record. The Blues kick off a welcome stretch of home games with an encounter with the visiting Calgary Flames on Wednesday. St. Louis has wins in six of its first nine games despite playing just two games at Scottrade Center over that stretch. They’re comfortable favourites on the NHL odds board against a Calgary team that comes in off a 3-2 OT win in Nashville.

NHL Odds and Betting Analysis

Everything is going the Blues’ way early in the season; they sit atop the Central Division standings and will play seven of their next nine games at home. St. Louis has won 10 of its previous 14 games against the Pacific Division, and are expected to extend that run of dominance against the Flames, who have dropped nine of their last 11 games against teams with winning records dating back to the end of last season.

Both teams have been average over plays, with the Flames having gone over in four of eight games and the Blues having done so in five of nine contests. Rest has been a significant factor for both teams when it comes to totals; the Flames have played 11 unders in their last 17 games on the tail end of a back-to-back, while the Blues have gone over in six of seven contests when coming off three or more days of rest.

Calgary Flames

The Flames have been terrific on the road so far, winning three of four games away from Scotiabank Saddledome. Tuesday’s victory was particularly impressive, as Calgary rallied from a 2-0 third-period deficit against the Predators to even its record for the season. But Wednesday presents a completely different challenge for the Flames, who have won just two of the previous nine meetings with the Blues in St. Louis.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues power-play was impressive in the early going, scoring in five straight games to open the season. But the unit has fallen on hard times of late, going scoreless in four consecutive contests heading into Wednesday’s game – a stretch of 14 man-advantage opportunities. Veteran winger Jaden Schwartz has been a revelation for the Blues, leading the way with six goals and seven assists in nine games.
