The Blue Jackets are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday, but have won each of their previous eight visits to Calgary. The Flames have also been up-and-down of late but are a red-hot 23-7-5 at home.

The Flames are only modest favourites despite owning one of the best home records in the NHL. And they’ve been virtually automatic against the Blue Jackets’ division of late, coming into Tuesday’s showdown having won 11 of their past 12 games against Metropolitan opponents. But this series has been one of the strangest in recent history from a trends perspective, with the road team having prevailed in 14 of the previous 17 meetings.
The teams are on divergent paths from a totals perspective, with the number for Tuesday’s game sitting at 6.5. The Blue Jackets are riding a six-game under streak away from Nationwide Arena and are 5-1 to the under in their previous six games as an underdog. Calgary, on the other hand, has gone a blistering 22-7-4 in its last 33 games as a home favourite, and is 14-6-2 O/U in its past 22 contests against the Eastern Conference.
Columbus Blue Jackets
It has been quite a wild ride for the Blue Jackets since the end of February – they’re 5-4-1 over their previous 10 games, with a total of three goals scored in their five losses (including three shutouts) and 20 in their five victories. And things are getting dire for trade deadline acquisition Matt Duchene, who has just three goals and three assists in 13 games since joining the Blue Jackets in a deal with the Ottawa Senators.
Calgary Flames
Like their Tuesday opponent, Calgary knows a thing or two about extreme offensive fluctuations. The Flames have three wins and five losses in their previous eight games – and while they erupted for 20 goals in those three victories, they managed just six in the five defeats. Starting netminder David Rittich will need to be better if the Flames hope to end their home woes vs. Columbus; he has a 3.23 GAA and an .893 SV% in five games this month.
