Colorado Avalanche vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds
The Avs will be playing the second half of a back-to-back after a 4-3 loss last night in Montreal, snapping their three-game win streak.
These teams are in the midst of very different seasons; Ottawa is trying to get out of last place in the Atlantic Division, while Colorado is competing for first in the Central. Puck drop from Canadian Tire Centre is set for 7 p.m. ET. Our NHL odds have Colorado as the -135 favourite on Tuesday night, with the OVER/UNDER set at 7.0 goals.
Avalanche vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds
The Senators’ main goal tonight will be to try and contain Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon who scored four goals in their first meeting of the season to help the Avalanche to a 6-4 win. The Avalanche have torched this Ottawa defence over the past three seasons, scoring at least five goals in all five of their meetings since the 2021-22 season. They hit on the OVER in each of those five meetings, and the Senators have only managed a single win.
Colorado’s offence has been deadly all season, averaging the second most goals per game in the entire league at 3.66. They have not slowed down in the new year, scoring three or more in nine of their last 10 games. Over the last 10, they have played the OVER/UNDER 6-3-1 and 25-17-2 on the year.
Only a few teams in the league have been worse than the Senators against the spread this season. After dropping each of their past six games ATS, they now sit at 17-21 on the season which is second worst in the Atlantic. They have hit the OVER three games in a row, scoring three or more in each game. The offence has not been the issue this season for Ottawa, sitting on 3.30 goals per game, good for 10th in the league.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avs rolled into Montreal last night for the second stop of their five-game Eastern Conference swing to face a struggling Canadiens team. Colorado took the lead early with a power play marker less than five minutes into the game. Montreal would respond with a power play goal of their own before the end of the first period. The teams would go back and forth the rest of the night, but the Habs got the last laugh, scoring the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining.
MacKinnon picked up an assist in the game to extend his point streak to eight games (4G, 10A) putting him just two points back of Nikita Kucherov for the league lead in points. If he stays healthy he will push for his first-ever Art Ross Trophy. He has appeared in all 44 of the Avs’ games this season and will be looking to play an entire season without missing a game for just the fourth time in his career.
Ottawa Senators
Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 10th of the season with just five seconds remaining to beat the San Jose Sharks 5-4 on Saturday, snapping the Senators’ five-game losing streak. The worst team in the Eastern Conference and the worst team in the West traded leads the entire game. Ottawa was up 2-0, but San Jose battled back and went up 3-2 before the Sens took the lead 4-3 heading into the third.
Ottawa netminder Jonas Korpisalo faced just 18 shots but allowed four goals for a .778 save percentage, his lowest of the season. His first season in Ottawa has been tough, posting a record of 8-15-0 thus far.
Tim Stutzle led the way offensively, picking up four assists as the game’s first star, snapping a four-game scoring drought. He is now back up to a point per game with 38 points (7G, 31A) in 38 games. The German star celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday and he will be trying for points in back-to-back games for the first time in the new year.
