Colorado and Calgary are both looking to get back in the win column after being beaten by three goals on Tuesday night. Merely five points separate the Avs and Flames in the first and second wild card spots, making tonight a valuable two points for both squads.

The NHL odds have the Avalanche as a -165 favourite on the road, with the total opening at an even 6.0 goals. The puck will drop from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Alberta at 9 p.m. ET.

Avalanche vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

H2H- First of three meetings this season and the Flames are looking to beat the Avalanche for the first time since October of 2022, a stretch of five straight wins for Colorado. Two of their three meetings last season hit the OVER because of the Avs popping in six goals in back-to-back meetings.

After posting back-to-back shutouts, Colorado was blanked in their most recent game, helping them play the UNDER three games straight. They are now 25-27-3 on the OVER/UNDER this season with an offence that ranks ninth in the league, averaging 3.2 goals per game. Nathan MacKinnon is leading the league in scoring this season with 80 points and is currently the third-favourite for the Hart Trophy at +400, that line could be worth throwing a couple of bucks on.

The Flames gave up six goals on Tuesday for the first time since early December. The 6-3 loss snapped a streak of four consecutive games that played the UNDER, pushing their record on the OVER/UNDER to 21-32 on the campaign. Calgary is definitely looking for more from their offence who has been averaging just 2.66 goals per game thus far ranking them 28th in the league.

Colorado Avalanche

After back-to-back shutout wins, the Avalanche stuck with MacKenzie Blackwood in goal for the fifth straight game, when they opened their five-game road trip in Vancouver on Tuesday. After a scoreless first period, the Canucks potted one early in the second to take the lead and never looked back. Vancouver would notch a power play goal in the third before putting one in the empty net for the 3-0 win. The Avs were held to just 25 shots in this one and handed the Canucks six different opportunities on the power play.

Colorado’s goal-scoring has decreased significantly since trading away their leading goal scorer Mikko Rantanen. They have been held to two goals or less in four of the six games they have played since shipping him off to Carolina.

Blackwood has been playing excellent lately but with a back-to-back on the schedule, he may get the night off in Calgary Thursday. If that is the case expect Trent Miner to get his second start of the season.

Calgary Flames

There is a big two points on the table for the Flames on Thursday as they find themselves even with the Canucks for fourth place in the Pacific Division and sit just three behind Los Angeles in third. Not to mention, making up some ground on the Avs in the wildcard race.

Calgary opened the scoring versus the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday with a power play goal from Matt Coronato (14), taking a 1-0 lead into the second period. The Leafs rebounded in the middle frame outscoring the Flames 4-1 in the period. The game would end 6-3 with the Leafs popping one in the empty net.

The bright spot for the Flames on Tuesday was their power play scoring on two of their five opportunities. Their other special teams unit struggled though, as the penalty kill went just two for four.

The Flames have been solid at home this season, posting a 16-9-3 record this season at the Saddledome. They have lost three of their last four at home though and will look to snap that trend Thursday.
