Colorado Avalanche
Colorado had a night to forget on Wednesday, giving up eight goals to their rivals in Minnesota and snapping their five-game win streak. Philipp Grubauer gave up seven on only 18 shots before getting yanked for the first time this year. Grubauer is in the midst of a career year with a 2.00 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and a league-leading five shutouts.
The Avalanche will be without defenceman Jacob MacDonald as he was suspended for two games for after an illegal check to the head of the Wild’s Ryan Hartman. Nathan MacKinnon is sixth in the league in scoring with 47 points, despite already missing a handful of games. He’s potted five goals and added four assists in his past five games, keeping up the pace for his best season yet.
Anaheim Ducks
John Gibson stopped 34 of 35 San Jose Shark shots for his eighth win of the year, ending the Ducks losing streak at three games. Adam Henrique continued to increase his trade value scoring his 11th of the year tying Max Comtois for the team lead. Henrique’s 18 points has bumped him up to the top line as he and the Ducks prepare for the NHL’s trade deadline on Monday.
The other trade candidates in Anaheim, Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell along with Sam Steel will miss the game versus Colorado. Getzlaf and Rakell are both top five in points and will be missed on a team with little offence. The Ducks are 29th in goals for this year with only 91 goals in 40 games.
