Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is stuck on five goals this season and hasn't played since Nov. 3.
Just as the Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to avoid smashing the panic button over Auston Matthews‘ upper-body injury, so too are bettors holding tickets for him to win this year’s Rocket Richard Trophy.
Matthews began the season as a +175 favourite on the NHL odds board to take home the hardware for the NHL’s leading goal scorer but has since dipped to +600 on the board while sitting out each of Toronto’s last six games.

Meanwhile, you’ll currently see Leon Draisaitl at the top of the NHL odds for the Rocket Richard Trophy at +400 while Sam Reinhart is at +475.
Matthews Has Consultation With Doctor in Germany
The latest news is that Toronto’s 27-year-old captain travelled to Germany to consult with a doctor about the injury.
“(The trip was) more as a general checkup, but also to get some work done on his thing,” Leafs GM Brad Treliving said Tuesday. “It’s not alarming. It’s something we have been discussing knowing that he’s going to be getting this week (off), but we are hopeful that once we get through the week here he will be back up and skating and his return to play would be after that.”
So, it’s possible we could see Matthews, who has five goals and six assists in 13 games played, back in the lineup for Sunday’s game against Utah. Matthews won the Rocket Richard Trophy last season with 69 goals in 81 games played. The Leafs are back in action Wednesday as they host the Vegas Golden Knights.
