2025 Conn Smythe Trophy Odds: Connor McDavid favoured to win playoff MVP

We officially have a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Final as the Edmonton Oilers will look dethrone the defending champion Florida Panthers.

Let’s take a look at the top Conn Smythe contenders after three playoff rounds.

Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid is one of the few players ever to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, but lose the Stanley Cup. Personally, I don’t think the NHL would let that happen two years in a row, so the Oilers have to win the Cup for McJesus to win the Conn Smythe.

Leading the playoffs with 26 points (6G, 20A), McDavid enters the Cup Final as a +100 favourite to win the Conn Smythe. He’s already proven he can produce in the Final, posting 11 points in seven games against Florida last year, so McDavid could be a lock to win the Conn Smythe if Edmonton wins the Cup.

This Oilers team feels different and McDavid is the key.

Sergei Bobrovsky

When it comes to the Conn Smythe, it generally goes to the top point producer or the best goalie. Enter: Sergei Bobrovsky. Bob is putting up some of the best playoff numbers of his career, posting a 2.11 goals-against average with a .912 save percentage and three shutouts.

Something else to consider when it comes to Bobrovsky, is who else on the Panthers would you give the Conn Smythe to over Bob? Florida is a very well balanced team, but as a result there isn’t really any player who stands out as the clear-cut best player on the team.

Bobrosvky can certainly make his case as the best player if he shuts down McDavid and the Oilers’ offence.

Other contenders

Aleksander Barkov

Barkov has never been an offensive juggernaut, but he’s still managed to lead Florida with 17 points (6G, 11A) through three rounds. Combine that with his elite defensive play and you can make a case for Barkov to win the Conn Smythe.

Leon Draisaitl

Leon Draisaitl completes Edmonton’s two-headed monster. Draisaitl is second in playoff scoring with 25 points (7G, 18A) and he looks like the only Oilers player other than McDavid who has a chance to win playoff MVP.

Matthew Tkachuk

Matthew Tkachuk hasn’t been as flashy this playoff run as he was the last two years, but he’s still tied for second in points on Florida with 16 (5G, 11A) and he has a penchant for scoring big goals in big moments.
