With the NHL Trade Deadline looming at 3 p.m. ET on Monday Feb. 24, general managers around the league are glued to their cell phones like a teenager attached to their first iPhone. Some of them are trying to beat the frenzy of deals that will roll in on Monday, while others are holding the line, waiting for the last possible moment to squeeze every bit of value out of every asses. It’s an annual game a cat-and-mouse that will go a long way to dictate how the rest of the season goes as teams enter the playoff push.

Feb 22: The Predators bring on defenseman Ben Harpur from the Toronto Maple Leafs. In return, the Leafs acquire forward Miikka Salomaki.
Feb 21: The Jets pick up forward Cody Eakin from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2021.
Feb. 21 – Boston Bruins swing a deal with the Anaheim Ducks to land Ondrej Kase. David Backes, prospect Axel Andersson and a 2020 first rounder to Anaheim.
Feb. 20 – Montreal Canadiens acquire forwards Joseph Blandisi and Jake Lucchini from Pittsburgh for Riley Barber and Phil Varone.

The Toronto Maple Leafs made some moves early to bring in Kyle Clifford and goaltender Jack Campbell from the Los Angeles Kings. They likely aren’t done yet. The Buds still need some help on the blue line and more toughness is needed if they expect to get past the second round of the playoffs.

Winnipeg Jets Trades and Rumours
The Jets acquire Cody Eakin from the Golden Knights for a 2021 conditional 4th round pick.
The Jets picked up a solid defenceman in Dylan DeMelo from the Ottawa Senators for a 2020 third-round draft pick. The price is right and DeMelo should be a valuable add.
Vancouver Canucks Trades and Rumours
The Canucks don’t know when Brock Boeser will be back, so picking up a capable forward in Tyler Toffoli from the Los Angeles Kings was huge. Toffoli is no Boeser, but he’s a legit top-six forward when he’s going. Vancouver gave up Tim Schaller, Tyler Madden, a second-round pick in 2020 and a conditional 2022 pick.

New York Rangers Trades and Rumours
The Rangers are a team to watch out for. Chris Kreider is considered the rental forward that may be available and other players like Jesper Fast, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, Pavel Buchnevich, Anthony DeAngello, and Brady Skjei have all been involved in rumours. New York has already added Julien Gauthier in exchange for Joey Keane and goaltender J-F Berube for future considerations.

Expect the Habs to continue to unload assets. They shipped blue liner Marco Scandella to the St. Louis Blues for second-round pick in 2020 and a conditional fourth in next year’s draft.

Pittsburgh Penguins Trades and Rumours
The Penguins found Sidney Crosby a winger on Feb. 10 when they snagged Jason Zucker from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk, Calen Addison, and a first rounder in this year’s draft.

Tampa Bay Lightning Trades and Rumours
The Lightning set the bar high by giving up prospect Nolan Foote and a first-round pick in the 2020 or 2021 NHL Draft for Blake Coleman in a deal with the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 16.

Washington Capitals Trades and Rumours
The Caps added defenceman Brenden Dillon from the San Jose Sharks for a second and a third-round pick. Washington Capitals acquire forward Ilya Kovalchuk from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a 2020 third-round draft pick.

Alec Martinez is the new guy on the blue line after the Knights acquired him from the Kings for a second-round pick in this year’s draft and a second in next year’s draft.

Edmonton Oilers Trades and Rumours
The Oilers get a little help on the blue line by bringing in Mike Green from a deal with the Red Wings. With Oscar Klefbom out a couple of weeks, Green could help out on the power play. The Oilers could use a couple more top-9 wingers.
