Super Bowl XLV: The Very Early Preview
The NFL season doesn’t kick off until Thursday but Al Dannity is using his crystal ball to look ahead to the biggest game of them all. Who will make it to Super Bowl XLV and lift the Lombardi trophy?
No return trip for the Saints
It’s time for some hyper-specific predictions for the 2010 season. Let’s begin in the NFC, which promises to be a competitive conference for NFL betting fans in 2010. New Orleans, the reigning champions, will figure in the post-season once again this year. I like Minnesota, Green Bay, San Francisco, Atlanta, and the New York Giants to join them in the playoffs. After that it gets a little tricky.
Talented as they may be, I don’t like the 49ers or the Falcons to make it past the Wildcard round so that leaves us with a stacked final four for the divisional round. The Giants are good enough to beat the Saints on the road but I like Drew Brees and friends to put enough points on the board to return to the NFC Championship game. There they will meet Green Bay, fresh off a third game with the Vikings in 2010. Having beaten their arch-rivals, the Packers will prove that life truly does go on after Brett Favre by beating the Saints and making the trip to Dallas.
The Jets are that good
The AFC promises to be more top heavy than the NFC this season although not as far as the New York Jets are concerned. The Jets will find the AFC East a brutal ride. New York will rise to the top and win the division but miss out on getting a bye, as will 2010 AFC West champions San Diego. Instead Indianapolis and Baltimore will earn a coveted week off. The Wildcard spots will go down to week 17 but in the end the AFC South will steal both of them, with Houston and Tennessee making the playoffs.

It will be a short stay in the post-season for the Wildcard teams with New York and San Diego advancing to meet Baltimore and Indianapolis. A shocking divisional weekend is in store in the AFC as I like the Jets and Chargers to both win on the road, setting up an AFC Championship game at New Meadowlands Stadium. I like the Jets to win a defensive battle at home.
Your Super Bowl XLV Champions are…
Assuming I haven’t just cursed the teams above, the New York Jets should meet the Green Bay Packers at Cowboys Stadium in Super Bowl XLV. I like both teams to mature as the season wears on but it will be Green Bay that grows more in 2010. With Aaron Rodgers leading the way, the Packers will find a way to pass the ball despite the presence of Darrelle Revis in the Jets’ defense.
