Super Bowl Prop Betting: The Who's First Halftime Show Song

Over at the Sports Interaction 0nline sportsbook, there’s a plethora of cool NFL football prop betting available — but one prop bet in particular caught our eyes. Legendary rock bad The Who will play the prestigious halftime show at Super Bowl XLIV, one of the most anticipated musical events of the year. More than 151 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s show, and this year’s Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide in more than 230 countries and territories.

Led by singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend, The Who is arguably the most influential rock bands of the modern era. Who songs are some of the most popular around, and now, the Sports Interaction online sportsbook is offering odds on which one the band will play first during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The leading track is “Baba O Reilly” at 9/4. Best known as the “Teenage Wasteland” song, it’s been a staple of modern popular culture, appearing on shows like CSI: NY, House and One Tree Hill. This could very well be the most popular and recognizable single in The Who’s discography.

Also at 9/4 is “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” This famed track has tons of critical acclaim — Rolling Stone named it the 133rd Greatest Song of All Time while VH1 had it at No. 17 on its 100 Greatest Rock Songs list.

“My Generation” is currently listed at 11/4. This was the song that really put The Who into the limelight — the band recorded this track (and the album of the same name) in 1965 and their live performances of it have been the stuff of legend. Most famously their post-performance equipment destruction on the Smother Brothers Comedy Hour, where Keith Moon kicked a drum loaded with explosives and sent shrapnel flying everywhere.

“Substitute” is something of a longer shot, currently listed at 5/1. While not as famous or critically acclaimed as the aforementioned tracks, “Substitute” is a favourite amongst fellow musicians. The song was covered by seminal punk group The Ramones and was also released as a single by the Sex Pistols. In 1994, English rockers Blur also covered it and were followed by The Stereophonics and Great White.
