Super Bowl 59 Player Props: Jalen Hurts isn’t the key to Philadelphia’s success
For the second time in three years, Jalen Hurts has led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. I’ve dug into the numbers for props to both buy and fade for Hurts on Feb. 9.
Super Bowl 59 Party Prop Bet Sheet
Buy: Jalen Hurts anytime TD
Hurts have never been viewed as a pass-heavy quarterback because of his reliance on his elite mobility and movement on the ground. Hurts ran for three TDs in the NFC Championship against Washington and he has rushing TDs in five of his last six full games (he only had four passing attempts in his final regular season appearance).
As good as Hurts is on the ground, this prop comes down to Philadelphia’s infamous “tush push”. It’s a nearly unstoppable play and I’m willing to bet at some point in the Super Bowl, someone like Saquon Barkley or A.J. Brown will be tackled within the two-yard line. Hurts will find the end zone at least once on Sunday.
Fade: Jalen Hurts passing yards
Hurts’ passing yards number is set way too high for my liking. He’s only surpassed 213.5 passing yards in one of three playoff games this year and that’s because the Eagles were resting Barkley in the latter part of a blowout game. Hurts averaged 193.5 passing yards per game during the regular season and he didn’t crack 150 passing yards in his first two playoff games.
The Eagles are a combined 6-2 in the regular season and playoffs when Hurts passes for less than 200 yards. You already knew this, but that stat points out how heavily Philadelphia relies on Barkley for their success. For me, it’s a no-brainer to fade Hurts’ passing yards in the Super Bowl.
