Super Bowl Anthem History
The Star Spangled Banner has been performed at all but one Super Bowl since 1967 (“America the Beautiful” was sung in 1977). At 1:30, Billy Joel (2007) has the shortest recorded national anthem time since oddsmakers began setting the Over/Under for this prop in 2007. Alicia Keys (2013) has the longest clocked time, by far, at 2:35.
Only six of the last 16 anthems have surpassed two minutes. Last year’s singer, Mickey Guyton, was clocked at 1:50, hitting the Over. The total anthem time has gone Over seven times and Under eight since 2007. Kelly Clarkson’s time of 1:34 in 2012 is the only recorded Push in that timespan.
