The Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers wrap up the “fake season” for a Week 4 preseason tilt on Thursday at Bank of America Stadium for a 7:30 pm Eastern kick-off.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Carolina Panthers
The Steelers and the Panthers have met in Week 4 of the preseason every year since 2003. In the last 10 meetings, the Steelers are 6-4. The Panthers though have won the last 4 matchups and have outscored Pittsburgh 76-22 in those games.
Point spread: Panthers – 4.5 Over/under: 37.5 Date: Thursday, August 31, 2017 Location: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte
NFL odds have the home team Panthers set as 4.5-point favourites with the total currently sitting at 37.5. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-1 this preseason and are fresh off a 19-15 home loss to the Colts last Saturday. The Panthers are also 2-1 on the preseason and edged the Jaguars 24-23 in Jacksonville last Thursday.
No chance you’ll see Pittsburgh running back Le’Veon Bell in Charlotte. Bell has sat out all of training camp because of a contract dispute with the Steelers. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Bell will rejoin the team on Friday, September 1st. The pro bowler will practice with the team that day for the first time since the 2016 season. Bell expects to play Week 1 for Pittsburgh’s regular-season opener at Cleveland.
It’s always tough to find something compelling in Week 4 of the preseason, but keep your eye on the internal kicking battles for the Panthers. Rookie draft pick Harrison Butker is trying to beat out veteran Graham Gano, while journeyman punter Michael Palardy is battling incumbent Andy Lee for a spot on the Week 1 roster.
