The Seahawks are led by quarterback Russell Wilson, who is one of the leading candidates for MVP. Wilson has thrown for 2,737 yards and 23 touchdowns to just two interceptions.
Crucial game in the NFC playoff race on Sunday afternoon as MVP candidate Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks come out of their bye to visit the Philadelphia Eagles.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
A bit surprisingly, this was flexed out of the Sunday night game to a 1 p.m. ET start, although hard to argue with Packers-49ers moving to prime time.
Seahawks-Eagles could easily be a first-round playoff preview if Seattle wins the NFC West but doesn’t get one of the conference’s top two seeds and the Eagles are a Wild-Card team. Or, Philly could win the NFC East and the Seahawks could be a Wild-Card team. Or both could be Wild-Card teams or division winners … or both miss the playoffs outright (although it’s unlikely Seattle misses). The NFC is wild right now – the Eagles and Seahawks somehow have never met in the post-season.
Seattle has won the past four in the series, last in Week 13 of the 2017 season 24-10 at home. Russell Wilson had three touchdown passes to three different receivers. The Eagles outgained the Seahawks 425-310 but only managed 10 points in part due to two turnovers. Carson Wentz was 29 of 45 for 348 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also had a fumble lost at the Seattle 1 that would have tied the game 10-10.
That was the only loss for that Eagles team in the final 17 games that mattered in 2017 (14 regular season, three playoffs) as they would go on to upset the Patriots for their lone Super Bowl title. Philly did lose Week 17 that year vs. Dallas but rested all its key players as it was meaningless with the top seed in the NFC locked up.
Seattle has covered the past four in the series. The under is 4-1 in the previous five meetings.
Seattle Seahawks
Bad break for the Seahawks that this was shifted from a night game to a 10 a.m. Pacific time start, but at least they come out of a bye week. Seattle ensured there would be no unbeaten teams this season with a wild 27-24 overtime win at the San Francisco 49ers on Monday in Week 10. It was Seattle’s NFL-leading third win this season when trailing by at least 10 points and improved Wilson to a ridiculous 6-0 in his career against teams that are at least eight games above .500. He got the Seahawks in position for the winning overtime field goal with an 18-yard scramble on third down. Wilson finished throwing for 232 yards and a touchdown but had a red-zone interception that nearly cost Seattle the game late in regulation. Top receiver Tyler Lockett left with a bad leg contusion and had to be hospitalized so monitor his status, although the team says Lockett should be OK and is likely to play.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 second-quarter lead on the Super Bowl-favoured Patriots on Sunday but wouldn’t score again in a 17-10 home loss. Wentz was 20-for-40 for 214 yards and a touchdown. He lost a fumble and had more than few passes dropped. Wentz also was sacked five times. Top running back Jordan Howard (shoulder) and receiver Alshon Jeffery (ankle) both sat out. So did linebacker Nigel Bradham (ankle). Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson left with a concussion. In the 10 drives following Johnson’s injury, the Eagles totaled 12 first downs, 165 total yards and no points. Philly is 6-2 ATS in its past eight vs. teams with a winning record.
